Anybody know where I can find one. I have a 91 KA24DE engine. It is the rubber hose/boot that is in between the throttle body and main air tube. The part number is 1657853F00. Every website I search says no longer in production. I wonder if the 89-90 boot will fit, even though it looks different, has a slight curve to it.
Any ideas?
Thanks

You could either hit up a junk yard, or maybe our classifieds section.
Lots of people upgrade to either turbo systems or aftermarket intake systems and no longer use that tube. They should be a dime a dozen.
If you can't find one, you could always upgrade to an aftermarket system.

I need to get my 91 S13 car smoged but it will not pass the visual because I have insulation tape wrapped around my rear air duct (the boot that attaches to the throttle body) where it tore in half 6 months ago. BTW the cars runs normal with the tape secured around it preventing any vacuum leaks, but the smog guy don't like it.

Anyhow it is near impossible to find that f*** part, # 16578-53F00 as it is discontinued. Can't find it at any local junk yards or ebay or the 100 dealerships I called.

So now I wonder if the 89-90 rear air duct might just fit on, those are still available and it looks real similar, part number 16578-40F05? Anybody try this?
I hate to order one a find that the hose length is too long or short or that the diameter is off.

Also I'm not too crazy about ripping the entire air intake system out and using some high performance replacement. This is California and they are real smog Nazis.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hey, I've got a couple of suggestions and notes for you:

1st off the SOHC coupler will fit, but not perfect (SOHC throttle body if higher than the DOHC) so it may bend and eventually break as well.

You can use intercooler piping couplers (rubber) but they will not have nipples for your vacuum lines.

If you're crafty, you can use a small piece of intake piping (they sell this stuff at auto parts stores for a couple of bucks) and add your own nipples. This is likely your best option (unless you can find an original one).

How I would do it:
  • -Take a piece of the piping (its hard plastic) and tap holes for vacuum plug nipples.
-Moroso makes brass nipples and they are very well milled [part #65390 is a pair that is 3/8" and 1/2"] (just right for this application) and they are also sold in auto parts stores.
-You can use a tiny bit of JB Weld on the threads to make sure they bond to the plastic.
-Use either the OEM coupler ends chopped off, or once again intercooler coupler to secure it to the TB/intake.
-If you want it to be really clean, coat the piping with rubber truck liner!
Hope I could help, good luck! :dblthumb:

Thanks Dantetris240,

Great advice, I also was considering making my own duct. But they only had the 3" coupler at the parts store that comes with a 2.5" adapter. And the outer diameter size on my throttle body is slightly larger that 2.75". So I assumed I could not use it.

Because I was thinking about buying 2 couplers and then cut to length a straight piece or intake piping to join the 2 couplers. Then cut out a hole in the piping for the nipple to connect to the breather hose.

I wonder if they sell those couplers for diameter 2.75"?

Thanks again

They do sell those 2.75" couplers, however do keep in mind if you use a straight piece of intercooler coupler you can put that vacuum nipple anywhere on the hard intake pipe (its for the PCV).

Good luck, looking forward to seeing what you end up doing.
