I found the 1990 Q45 seat controls I always wanted since my first Q45, but sadly they are black and only come in black and no other color.

So I ask rather than mix matching my car where can I find the interior pain to paint them?

I have used search.

I am the end of my rope.

Interior parts are not painted, they are typically made out of the color of plastic that they meant to be. I think your best solution is to just use the black ones... if that won't work for you, I would look for the newer specialty plastic paints that are made specifically to bond to plastics. Even then, I don't trust that those would be more than a semi-permanant solution.

You will need to: -sand(fine grit) -prime -sand(fine grit)- paint-wet sand(fine grit)-dry-paint-clear coat

Choose you materials wisely, take your time, and it will come out just the way you want it to.

I don't get the interior paint thing at all.

All switches were black.

Even with this kind of prep there is no way to get paint to last on something that you touch regularly-literally no way.

sem color coat is the top product for interior color. if you follow the prep it is pretty durable.

Then its time to get out the plaster-of-paris and start making some phone calls to industry plastic chemical suppliers for some raw materials.

OK just an update.

I think I have found someone, the name of the place I forget (Lucky for me I know where they are located).

Hope I find a paint or some kind of solution soon.

Home Depot and Lowe's sell either interior or exterior latex or oil based paint... for houses... not formulated to stick to plastics. Either will flake off in days. I know you said that you wouldn't want it because you can't spray it, but I just want to stress that it's going to take a special paint formulated for plastics to have even a prayer of this working.

I wonder if model paint might be a good option? Models are plastic... Even then, nothing will last for long if you touch them much.

Are you trying to paint the actual switches or the plastic trim plate surrounding them? Not sure why you would want to paint the switches themselves as even the 94-96Q used black switches with every interior color?

not sure if you didn't read my suggestion or just don't believe me but SEM COLOR COAT.

you do not want to apply with a brush. that is guaranteed.

the sem product comes in a lot of aerosol colors as well as a gun mixing system.

color chart:

yes, i know what i'm talking about (originally black):

the product is made for plastic and bonds to it rather than just covering it. the most important thing is to prep thoroughly.

but if there is an oem piece the correct color that is the way to go. hands down.

I ended up adding the 1990 Q45 seat/window switches as they were.

The only paint I could get to stick to the plastic coil covers was Krylon Fusion for plastic. I tried 3 different types of paint and approaches that all failed after the covers were exposed to heat. Once this paint is allowed to fully cure, you can wet sand and polish it (I used Meguiars ScratchX then TechWax) to nice luster.
