Any Autoparts store.

There is a hayden and a B&M model both fit well. They will list 3 different sizes for the fit, take the biggest one.

This is where I got mine for my 1995 Q45. The same web site and the same model.

Sorry to do a "Me Too" post ... I was merely endorsing that company and web site. They shipped promptly and things went well with my purchase.

All you gotta do is unhook the transmission hoses going into the radiator and plug them into the transmission cooler!!!!

You can get them from catalogs with fans built into them too. Not sure how it would fit or if its good for performance.

Summit has the same cooler but with a thermostatically controlled fan.

If I don't need the fan in Phoenix, you sure won't need it in Indiana. :D

Have any of you guys with the transmission coolers noticed a difference? In my 95Q (105K) I've always noticed that if I drive for an extented time the shift lever becomes pretty hot. (Metal rod)I know that's not a good way of checking the temp, but I'm just curios if that still occurs with the transmission cooler?

Also do you need to add more fluid to account for the cooler's volume?

With regard to the ones with add-on fans, etc., you also need to keep in mind that it is not good to cool the ATF too far. There is an optimum temperature for normal operation. Which is why the radiator "in the loop" approach may be needed for cold climates - the warming of the AT fluid (when in the radiator) from the engine coolant, is kinda needed in really cold weather.

Z,

Any bites on your Q?I'm trying to convince my younger brother to buy it....

On another note, I too plan on buying a M45...is it a lot more car than the 95Q?

I think Zs Q has been taken...... :(

The only reason that makes me think I want fans is I am GOING to put it in the active cooler place, and I think I want to put it inline with the stock heat exchanger, since it gets really cold here and the car sits outside!!!!!

Wes is right. My 1995 Q45 has been sold as of two weeks ago - I told the new owner about the NICO site, but I do not know if he has joined up yet.

The M45 is an awesome car! It reminds me most of the experience I had when I bought my first Q new back in March of 1991. I still get a wide grin on my face when I drive it (just like I did back in 1991!). :D

Comparisons to the Q45 (old and new) are:

1. Has the same 340HP engine as the new Q45. Accelerates very well, although I have not pushed it yet - the engine/transmission TSB needs to be applied (scheduled for next Tuesday). Much stronger and quicker than the 95 Q engine. The sound is super-quiet, the revs rise effortlessly.

2. M45 has a smaller interior. Shorter back seat leg room than either old or new Q45. Makes it a bit more difficult fitting people. Seats are more like the 1991 Q I had, firmer than the 95Q - I do like them though. Seat length is a tiny bit short in the thigh, but not a serious limitation. I am 5' 10" and the M45 without the sunroof gives me more headroom.

3. The M45 is narrower and shorter. But this makes it easier to fit in our garage. My wife likes the smaller feel compared to my old Q. I think she would also have found the new Q45 a bit big for her, but she loves the M45!

4. The M45 has taut, sporty suspension. Makes for very good handling, but a bit of an uncomfortable ride when on a bumpy highway (think of 680 South just before you get to 280 in the Bay Area.) On most other highways around here, it is fine.

5. Unique styling. The M45 stands out, the new Q45 simply does not. The old Q was unique too, particularly in the 90-93 flavor when they first came out, but later softened in the 94+ flavor. Recently, I was a bit embarrassed because I mistook a new Q45 for a new Maxima (silly me!) from the side, but you cannot make the same mistake on the M45. To be honest, my first impression last year of the M45 looks was negative, but it has grown on me. I now like the unique styling!

A good idea! Do make sure that the radiator portion innards are very clean and that you do not introduce any debris when installing the new cooler. In fact, I would also make sure to flush the new cooler thoroughly before installation - I had the dealer do that with mine, just in case it had some dirt or manufacturing debris still inside it.
