I went out of town for two months. When I started my 96 Q45 it started after cranking it about ten times for about five seconds each time. HOWEVER, the CHECK ENGINE light came on.What are the possible reasons it would light up? The light is still lit after a fresh tank of gas. I was thinking maybe oxygen sensor?Anybody know a link that shows what it could be?

THANKS!

All of the codes that can trigger the CEL are listed in the FSM.

What does the OBD II scanner reveal? Because of the difficulty starting, you may well have more than one problem.

With no stated maintenance history, we cannot offer anything more than WAG.

Thanks for the reply.

Do I need any special tools to find out what the code is?

All 1996 and newer cars use OBDII and thus require a code scanner tool..........don't cheap out on one that just reads and won't reset codes.http://www.harborfreight.com/c...98614

CAS, fuel system, ignition system. Use the KISS principal.

Your best bet might be

before you do any more expensive damage. They can at least give you a heads up what your car needs.

Brian's place charges $50 to find out what the check engine light is on for, but its returned if you do any work there. Miguel checked out the front suspension and I need everything and they came up with a price of over $1800. I asked about aftermarket parts. Brian was not there that day and he was supposed to call me after the weekend about aftermarket. I took the advice of this forum and put tokico blues a few weeks later and saved some dough - ok, a lot of dough. The check engine light was going off for two things related to knocking. Miguel said to see if they go off again before doing anything. The light has stayed off. I think the sensor went off because of the car sitting for so long. I put the $50 toward the place putting in the darlington piece for the blower. Its nice to have the blower working.

Now i am back here to learn more about the speed sensor. I am writing a new post next.

Thanks all!
