I just landed on a 1995 S14 with 113K miles.

Is there a general rule of thumb about bushings as when they should be replaced?

If their isn't, is there any sorta check I can do to help me decide other than just driving around and listening for creaks?

Do you guys think its harder to remove the old bushings than it is to install new ones?

Thanks in advance

Replace them immediately.

Look for goo oozing from front tension rod bushings. On the others any sign of deformation is a good indication. Also out of spec alignment and unpredictable or unusual handling can mean its time for replacement.

Removal of old bushings is generally harder than installing new, but it doesn't really matter since you can't do one without the other.

Thanks for the reply.

I took out the bolts from the rear control arms to look at the bushings and they are still black- no oozing.

I currently have the car on blocks and probably will for the next week. Can I do any other checks to make sure if I should replace them?

Do you have any recommendations on where I can buy a set that contains as many bushings as possible?

Thanks again

he said the FRONT TENSION RODS have grease in them....the rest are solid rubber. check for cracks and signs of obvious wear, like deformation, or excessive oil soak; like somethings been leaking on them(power steering fluid is a major rubber eater). u can also pry a lil on them and see if one side has more play than the other side, or if they are just too flimsy. u kinda gotta do it to a few cars b4 u get a good feel on how tite bushings should be. the energy suspension bushings are cheap and they are an improvement over the oem(rubber vs polyurethane). so if u wanna replace them, any time is good! i have replaced all mine. it took about 4 days using a lift, torch, electric saw, press and a vice. i was doing it during business hours so i couldnt focus entirely the whole time, but it was still a pain in the A!

no joke. i just finished doing all of mine yesterday. i had a torch, bench vice and 12inch hack saw, and some chisels. i did it with my car on jackstands in my drive way. im unemployed and have a second vehicle. it would have been almost imposable other wise. (took a long time) i saw a great walkthrough in project car magzine. inspired me to do it. but really, every single bushing faught me comming out . it took me about a total of about 24 to 30 hours from start to finish. a press would have been great for getting out the rubber bushings. but now that its done, im very happy i did it.
