i'm having an argument over on another forum, i was under the impression that the RB26DETT is a realitvly new engine, this person claims that it was made in the R32 skyline, a decade old car.

Now is this true?

When was the RB26DETT first made and which car did it began its life in?

Yes there was a 26 before the BNR34 came out... Now how old do you think the RB series is? It was introduced in 1985 in the HR31. There was the RB20DET that replaced the DR30's FJ20E, the HR31 also had a CA18DE. FYI, there are 11 generation of the Skyline, not 3.

1st: 1957-1963 ALSI The Prince Skyline

2nd: 1963-1968 S50 The Prince Skyline and the first 2000GT

3rd: 1968-1972 C10 The first GTR, the 2000GTR Nissan's fist great race car. Competed directly with the Porsche 911

4th: 1972-1977 C110 Introduced the 2000GT-X, continued the 2000GTR

5th: 1977-1981 C211 The 2000GTX and GTR were lost, only the 2000GT-ES were offered

6th: 1981-1985 DR30 The 2000GT and the 2800GT, the first Skyline to use an I6, all skyline used a I4 to this point.

7th: 1985-1989 HR31 The first Skyline to use an RB series engine. Introduced the Skyline GTS and GTS-R with the RB20DET GTS-X introduced HICAS

8th: 1989-1994 BNR32 Re-introduction of the GTR all new RB26, ATTESA-ETS, and Super HICAS. Built for Group A racing class. It won every single race, and Group A racing was destroyed by the GTR. V-spec introduced (Victory Specification) Enter JGTC

9th: 1993-1999 BNCR33 RB20 dropped for the RB25. The 400R was created for the all new JGTC and got the RBX-GT2. Based off the RB26, bored and stroked 2.8l, it made 400BHP@6800 There were only 99 400Rs made. The GTR-LM was a road going version of it Le Mans GTR wich was RWD

10th: 1998-2002 BNR34 Many Japanese onsidered the BNR32 still to be the best GTR. The BNR34 is more a akin to the R32 than the R33. Bringing back some of the older name plate such as the GT-X the R34 made the most power. It broke the lap time at one of the most famous race tracks in the world. the Nurburgring, beat Germany's own Porsche 996. Hence the NUR spec at the end of production.

11th: 2001- * V35 Aim as a luxury sport sedan. The Skyline name plate seperated from the GTR
