When to update the map version

I have a 2010 Murano LE with nav. I haven't updated the map since it was new. Now of course they're sending me flyers trying to get me to upgrade with a discount until June 30. What I'm wondering is how long ago did the current map version get released (version 8.5, the 2012 map) and when will the next version be released? I don't want to buy it today if the next year's version is barely around the corner...

Don’t waste your money I updated the 2010 version to 2012 the most current and the redesign of RT. 195 to Rt. 95 in the center of Providence RI. that was complete in 2009 is still not updated as well as a few other areas. I can’t see and changes regarding roads. If you use it to find POI then maybe it’s a little better but for Navigation I wish I did not do it.
