I have a CVT, but that seems a little high. My previous car was a stick and I usually shifted around 2k-2.5k. What you're doing won't kill your engine, but shifting around 2k-3k may give you better gas mileage.

yeah, that makes sense. also, this is my first Altima, maybe i'm paranoid, but when im parked, idled, i hear this tiny lil sound (kinda like a knock, but very faint, and quiet), is that normal for nissans? or just altimas?

You may be hearing the "Nissan click". Which I think is like a nissan "trademark" sound if you want to call it that. If it stays quiet and doesn't start sounding too wierd I wouldn't worry about it.

I know there was a recall on some sort of heatshield on the 2.5 that rattled, so if the sound starts getting louder and really rattly I would take it in. My gf 's 2.5 has that rattle but she hasn't taken her car in yet.

where is the heat shield? i know that the console (arm rest box thing), my pen in there rattles a lil, but i dont think that is the reason. all cars vibrate. how do i know for sure if it's the heat shield?

you guys are late nighters too huh lol - not to high jack your thread

if you keep the revs between 2 and 3 you will get amazing gas mileage

I shift at redline when going fast. Otherwise it's before 3K rpm
