When to shift gears?

Hello yall! Was just wondering when to shift gears? When going slow I shift from 2000 to 2500. Is that O.K.? And when I speed up a lil I shift gears 2500 to 3000. I've been hearing that some peeps shift at 3500 to 4000 all the time whether going fast or slow.

My AT shifts at 2000 when I drive it easy. I'm in high by 45 mph. However, as soon as I start up a hill in high it downshifts. So, 2000 rpm doesn't seem to be too slow for a VQ, but I wouldn't go up a hill in high gear at 2000 rpm either.
