This may sound like a stupid question, but I have not been able to get a straight answer, just opinions, and vague answers.

So when is the best time to check your oil level?

-Some say it doesn't matter-The FSM says "Several min after the engine has been turned off" (Not a very exact statement!)-Some say 10min after the engine has been turned off-Some say its best to wait overnight to ensure all of the oil has returned to the pan.

It seems to me the best time would be either 10 min after the engine has been turned off, or waiting overnight. Since our engines are turbocharged, having the correct amount of oil is critical. Also, since our engines are turbocharged, they probley need to be measured differently then a NA engine.

Let the car run for 15 sec, turn off the engine wait 10 sec and just read the dip stick. Just as simple as that.

10 seconds is not enough time for the oil to get from the head back to the sump.

The 10 minute rule is a good one to go by IMO. The oil really only needs a few minutes to get back down to the sump, but someone along the line implemented the 10 minute rule, and it's a good one to go by.
