I'm hoping for a tech to jump on this question.

What is the service life of the timing chain on the VQ35HR? I was guessing 100,000 miles?

they don't really have a service interval...

Aside from checking/measuring to ensure its within spec it will not need to be replaced.

You should install a shift kit in your transmission Jeff... transgo shift kit is on sale at summit for $230 now.

Yeah I don't know man, they spell Infiniti with a Y at the end?

I had a transgo shift reprogrammer kit in the hemi it was pretty nice. Someone else discovered if you solder a resister into the wire that tells the computer line pressure you can trick it into running a higher line pressure then stock. After a while that resister started coming with the reprogrammer kit.

They make good stuff and it was super easy to swap out the springs and plate in the valve body.

You shouldn't have any issues with the timing chain for quite some time. They don't wear out like belts.

Ya, I've seen a DIY on this. I'm doing shift kits with my buddy this weekend...at least thats the plan. The hardest part looks like keeping track of all the bolts you take out.

Should be a lot of fun.

On the hemi they were all the same on the valve body.

One thing I use when I want to put a bolt back where it came from is to get a piece of cardboard and draw a outline of the part then when I take out a bolt I poke it through the card board in the correct spot.

Would that work?

Mine sees red line a few more times a day then yours does. chains don't usually break but they can stretch and the guides can wear out or break off.

Sometimes I hear a noise on cold full throttle accleration that sounds like timing chain to me

How easy is it to check for wear and stretching of the chain?

I know on the older 450 Mercedes the chains would let go and destroy the engines. We don't want that to happen here.

Nice!!! Those are great numbers TM. Are you reporting that you got 100,000 miles out of the one set of BT's? I would like to run 87 octane too but could it produce issues down the road. I currently use 89 octane 75% of the time. When towing the Airstream trailer I always use super.
