ok, so im 16 and don't really have an a/c....YET. Im getting one this summer and my parents are paying the down payment as a birthday present. Now here is where i need your help....should i buy one this summer, or should i wait for the 09 to come out to get the 08. Since the '09 will be cheaper than the 08 is now, I know the price drop on the 08 should be fairly decent. And i definitely want a 6mt, and if the rumors are true that the 09 only comes in cvt, then an 09 is out of the question. What do you think will be the price drop on the 08 when the 09 comes out and when should i buy??? My impatience is starting to take over my rational thinking!!

I'm also wondering about it. I was planning on getting the AC in the next month or two, but with the 09s coming out in Fall I wonder what the 08s will drop to. You should keep in mind tho that the 6MTs are pretty hard to get a hold of right now, so if you wait until the 09s come out and the 09s are only CVT then it might be all but impossible to find an 08MT unless you buy a used one. Some people on the forums have said they had to order the MT from the factory and wait 10 weeks for it...

cmon guys dont get me scared. worst come to worst ill get an 09 cvt which i guess is equivalent to an 08 mt, but mt will ALWAYS be my top choice. plus...i know we have a lot more a/c available on the east coast than in canada and the west coast, so maybe thatll save me.

I doubt theres guna be a huge price drop because they will be essentially the same. Its just that dealers will probably be easier on the 08 A/C (bargain wise) to talk down.

I REALLY doubt that the 09 would only come in CVT, that would be retarded.. Why would they do that?? I'm sure if they looked at the number of M/T sold for the 3.5 AC they would see that more than 10% of the sold A/Cs are M/T. Why would they remove the M/T now?

I understand that the 09 Maxima is only getting CVT but thats because its a family sedan, the coupe was targeted towards the younger audience which more likely would like stick shift.

Shift__That.

mcheddadi, but you ordered your AC before it was even released right?

Burton, I was just warning ya if you had your heart set on a MT. If you don't mind getting a CVT as a second choice then there's not too much to worry about, but if you were dead set on a MT then it's pretty risky to wait for the 09s to come out. That's all

chow, i know it would be stupid to get rid of mts, but those are the rumors going around. I couldn't believe it either, but ive heard that from tooo many people. I guess a cvt wouldn't be too bad, at least its an 09 and all the little problems with the rattling and squeaking will be gone.

for everyone else....other than the fact that instead of a manual stick, its a cvt stick shift...are there any other difference between the mt and cvt? horsepower drop?

6MTs are faster than CVTs and CVTs have a certain lag in manual mode. other than that, I can verify but I think CVTs are heavier.

=/ i really didn't want to hear that. if you really need to order 08s in advance, maybe there wont even be a price drop? they will just stop preorders and no price drop will be needed. i hope not, wish me luck!

Yea the manuals are like .1 or .2 seconds faster. No wide margin of difference really. Its really all about the control of your car with a manual thats really great about it

yea .1 or .2 seconds is not really too bad of a difference. And after the plans i have for my coupe, ill be saving at least a second anyway. Do turbo and superchargers work the same for a cvt?

I dont know much about the AC price dop, however, for an example: My dad just bought at 08 jeep grand cherokee limited fully loaded(the only thing it didnt have was the rear dvd player). Sticker price was 41 and some change, he paid 31697.

I can just imagine what would happen to the aftermarket if Nissan decided to drop the MT out of production.

Either everything will be focused on the CVT or all aftermarket products would halt. Since it would be more like a family coupe then anything..
