Our 19 Rogue literally seen 2200 miles driven since the last OC. Last OC happened on Labor day weekend. Can I wait till labor day weekend or should I get it done next month regardless of miles? I have a habit of changing the oil every 6 months regardless of mileage but not sure which route to take on this vehicle. Last OC dealer used 0w20.

The trouble with 2200 miles and infrequent use is that humidity will build up in the crankcase and eventually form acid sludge. Long trips will boil it out, but the grocery store won't. I wouldn't go crazy over "time vs mileage", but 6 months is probably a good interval in most climates if mileage isn't reached. It's a judgement call, mugginess is the enemy and change accordingly.

Definitely will have to get the OC done next month. Just not sure when, but I need to find a dealership that won't screw us over like last time.

+1 on this. A couple weeks ago I changed the oil in my 2018 Rogue and my wife's 2014 Rogue. Mine had about 1500 miles on the oil and hers had about 800 miles. I hated to dump good oil but did it anyway because of our short trips and the high heat and humidity here in Florida. We both work at home and now due to covid we drive even less than we used to. I used STP 0W20 in both cars.

As a side discussion, I just bought a new 2021. Think I should be doing oil changes after 500 miles, then 2k miles, then 7k miles, then normal schedule? Usually that's recommended with new crate motors and even small internal combustion engines (generators and such). :gotme

There's no need for a 500 mile change like the bad old days, today's production tolerances are so much better that there's no need for it. However, a first change someplace between 1~2K is still a good, conservative idea.

Edit--I left out that both of our Rogues are under Nissan Extended Warranty so I have to follow the 6 month/5,000 mile oil change recommendation in the maintenance schedule. I keep all receipts, write down the date and mileage and anything else I do at the oil change and even save the old reminder stickers from the windshield, all for proof of maintenance just in case we ever have a warranty claim.

There's absolutely no stricture against changes that are more frequent than the recommended intervals. I tell all my customers very openly that if they plan to keep it a few years and trade it in, use the book interval. If they plan to keep it forever, keep it to the traditional 3K.

Hello all

Newbie here to the rogue. just purchased 2018 Rouge SV AWD with 37k miles. I'm reading the manual, and I'm not 100 percent sure of something so I figured I would ask here.

Should I use conventional or synthetic? I would say 80 percent is highway driving and 20 percent is city. Is it safe to go up to 7500 miles between oil changes? I'm coming from a Toyota Corolla, that I could wait till 8,500 miles between oil changes, and car has never leaked or burned a drop of oil.

New to the forums so, I'm getting used to the layout.

Thanks everyone!

THIS, all day long.

With modern engines, your first 100k is pretty much guaranteed, trouble-free. With that said, here's an indisputable fact: The best oil is clean oil.

Brand is, for the most part, irrelevant (don't @ me, I'm not interested in arguing, and you'll be wrong). Get the viscosity right and follow the intervals that VStar suggested and you've done your part.

I do oil changes every 4K on the wife’s 2018 rogue using idemitsu synthetic. My 2021 Altima will probably get the factory fill dumped at 1200 miles when it’s supposedly broke in. The manual says there’s no need but I can’t imagine it’d hurt anything given the metallic color I'm getting on the dipstick from the machining process. If your under warranty then keep it at 6 months or 5k or less. I’m sure being that the 2018 aren’t DI that you can go longer but I take pride in maintaining my cars to a neurotic level.
