Well guys... im running into the wall trying to fix this problem... My 87 Z24 nissan TBI wont go pass 3k rpm.. once it reaches it, it starts to sputteer till its under 3k and its normal... it does this in all gears and neutral... if i just ease on the gas it will go past... but if i have it half in or full..... it cuts out on me.... I thought TPS... but mine is brand new lol... so i unplugged it... and the Engine does the same without a TPS.... the old one did the same thing... Could it be MAF? also my fuel filter is new. I read something about water on the tps or something causing it to tirgger a circuit to make the ECU think its Decelerating causing the injectors to cut out at 2800.... and thats about right.... I need some HELP!!!!

EGR can cause that too. Make sure your distributor is not off a tooth.

Are the coils grounded well? Are the plugs gapped right?

Well, it might be the MAF sensor then. I hate to say this because it's expensive and I like to eliminate the cheaper possibilities before spending bigger money. I found some MAF's...

http://www.autopartsfair.com/n....htmlMight want to do some more research on prices and availabiity

If your truck was mine, I would do this to it. zer...05518 and to hell with replacing the obsolete z24i TBI parts. Or just an engine swap, or a z20e MPFI component swap, but good luck finding those parts. Whatever you do, Good Luck. May God have mercy on your soul.

Have you hooked a vacuum gauge to the FPR valve to see what's going on when the hesitation happens?

Catalytic converters can act weird like that when they are going bad. Fine one minute, and a blockade the next.

Yep, my buddy had a cat go bad and it would run fine for a little bit, and then it would just choke the engine right down, sometimes stalling it out. Weird stuff. You should unbolt the cat, and test drive it for a while. It will be loud as hell, but at least you would know for sure. the bolts are probably rusted solid, so you might have to cut them off and replace them if the cat is still good. Or you could just be naughty and leave it off or hollow/through pipe it.

It's a better bet than replacing an already good MAF sensor and still having the problem.

Is that a bolt on or weld on?

*Note* I can't guarantee you that the cat is the problem, so maybe you should test drive it without anything just to see it it will act up anymore. It is loud, so be considerate to your neighbors if you do. I can't say what the cops would do if they heard you like that. I would still do it.

check the distributor cap and rotor, this motor has 2 coils and 8 plugs. it will run on 1 coil but will not rev. i have seen them burn thru the rotor before.
