We are just about to dig into an RB20det swap into my buddies 1989 KA 240 hatch, and I was wondering what the limits of the stock fuel pump are?

you reached the limit when you put the rb20 in... lol

its pretty much common practice to put an aftermarket or stock from clip fuel pump in when doing any engine swap from the NA ka to a turbo motor...

Sorry man but the fuel pump is pretty much vital. I don't know why you would attempt the swap without all necessary parts. I think this part is needed along with a FPR. Just save your friends car and get a Walbro.~ANDREW~

I am using the walbro. You can find them just about anywhere for $100 or less.

You will also need a fuel pressure regulator (I am using the Nismo, and a Fuel pressure gauge to set it) Do a little searching and you will find the settings, I don't remember them off the top of my head.

you can use other variety of high flow oem filters, such as TT 300zx pump, TT supra pump, Turbo Rx7 pump...etc...

good point. I looked into that option also, but 300ZX TT pumps are like $300!!

If you have access to a junked factory turbocharged car, it may be a cheap option. Unless the fuel has set long enough in the tank to gum up, fuel pumps are usually good for several 100 thousand miles.

I have 20B Cosmo pump in my RX7 TII, but only because it was a really good deal.

Just run a Walbro they can be found wicked cheap on ebay. I have the universal Nismo fuel pressure regulator. The walbro pump runs about 3-5 psi more than your stock fuel pressure regulator so it will be rich. The nismo unit I got was from Phase 2 motor trend. The pressure will need to be viewed with some type of inline or other method for fuel gauge. The stock specs for fuel pressure are 36psi with vacuum hose attached and 44 psi without vacuum attached. This stuff I believe is as vital as the electric fans.~ANDREW~
