I had my first AutoX today at my local airport. the course was narrower then I expected probably a little less then 2 cars wide. The pavement was like blacktop/ asphalt and was seemed to be somewhat freshly paved. The bad part about that was the coarse was covered with a mixture of dust and tiny chips of the asphalt. the combination of that and having mediocre tires meant I was sliding around alot, but it was good fun I got four runs, but only one legitimate time

I walked the track once on my own and it wasn't to confusing except the slalom. The track goes from having cones on both sides to having just a row that you weave through and that was a little confusing when you come up to it at 30ish and don't know what to do. It didn't help that I got bumped up in the running order and missed my parade run (driving slowly through the course to get a feel for it). So I skipped the slalom on the first run and got a DNF

The second run I stayed on course on hit no cones. to much under-steer and a sharp corner sneaking up on me hurt my time but that's ok because for some reason they didn't record a time for me on that run anyways.

3rd run I got a minute and four seconds(including my 2 second cone penalty) which was an average time it seemed, but I wasn't really happy with I had my hands full remembering how the corners when/ trying to stay on track so my line was very poor.

4th run I started decent and carried good speed through the slalom, until I came to the last left which was tighter, and when I turned in more the car just got completely sideways and skidded to a stop It kinda killed my attack for the rest of the run and I ended with a 1:14

Overall I would have like to do better... I was struggling with grip and pushed through to many corners for my liking, but I did manage to match the lap time o a early 90s M3 and a 350z. I beat the only other 240 their, his best run was a 1:05 something which was the only run he made it through with out a noteworthy mistake, he only got 3, one a 1:07 and one he spun twice then tried drifting and got kicked out...Did I mention he had a red top and I have a stock KA Subaru owned the even, those wrx's are FAST one and held the best times of the day, which to my knowledge would be a 55, in a wrx wagon on Hoosiers

It was a fun day other then the fact that I forgot how important sunsceen is (damn my face hurts and I have a perma bracelet tanned on my wrist)

I know most wont take the time to read so Ill get pics up as soon as possible...Any body in the ventura area there is another on sept 11, it be awsome to get some 240's out there.

the hatch had all kinda battle damage the side skirt on the pass side was broken and didn't go past the door...the hood had that huge gap by the radiator, and sat to high on its hinges...It was nice to have another 240 their even if he did just piss off the organizers and get kicked off the track...Grilled cheese you should just take out the S14...A dedicated schedule may be a lil much for it but a couple events wont really hurt...if the guy with the new c6 can do it then I don't think your car in to nice to be beaten a lil...that's what the car was made for.there isn't much to hurt your car, especially if you drive hard occasionally...Just do it, its fun! Believe me there were plenty of DD pos mobiles, If they can stand up it it your car can too...

Congratulations on your first Solo race. I can't wait to start autocrossing. I notice a few people saying they don't want to autox their s14, is there a specific reason for that?

its in the short novel I wrote above unfortunatly a 1:04 but thats out of 4 runs, the first of wich I missed the slalom like a newb the second of wich they just didnt get a time for some reason, and on the 4th I got sideways and skidded to a stop(that was kinda fun hehe)So my "best time" was realy my only time I realy got if you trow out my spin...but I at least put in a better time then the SR that made my day

the average time Id say was about that...some of the best runs were 55's, with most of the WRX's getting around 1:00

congrats on your first autox. sounds like you did pretty decent too for your first time. the more you do it, the more you get a feel for what to do and when to do it. sounds like you were trying to drive too hard though. its all about beeing smooth and keeping a good pace. i autox my s14 regularly, and do really good for what i have (no hoosiers). whats up with the pusys that dont want to drive their cars?

September 11? I'm there!

The red 240 hatch does have an SR in there. He owns RMJ Motorsports in Oxnard.

Can't wait to auto-x my coupe.

Also, how much to enter?
