When I have the MAF unplugged the car idles well at a steady 900 rpm without any hesitation. When I turn off the car and we plug in the MAF the car will turn on and after about 10-15 seconds the rpms drop instantly to 0 and the car dies. After that the car will not turn on.

This sound familiar to anyone? Could it be the wiring for the MAF is bad or could it be that just the entire MAF is bad. The MAF is an N60.

Thanks in advance.

I just had the same exact problem, ended up being the ground for the MAF. It grounds at the ECU. Traced the wire it was number 48 pin in the ecu. Ends up the damn thing came unplug from a ****ty crimp job from the previous owner. Soldered it back together and the car runs like a champ.

did your car even have the problem where after it dies out for the first time, it would refuse to start even after you unplug the maf? it's like the MAF gave a crazy reading to the ECU and the ECU dumped a bunch of fuel into the motor and flooded it. Cause even with the MAF unplugged right now the car still won't start and I'll usually have to wait like over night before i could get the car started again.

could the problem also be that we don't have our SAFC hooked up and running with the n60 maf?

alright after a few fixes to the wiring we got the car to start up. It will start pretty good, idle at 1100 rpm for 1 second, go down to about 500 rpm and hesitate between 500-600 rpm. Eventually, the AFR starts to slowly rise until the wide band says LEAN (after about 15-20 seconds) and the car dies out. Any ideas?

What wiring did you mess with exactly?

If it were me I would go over it in order. like this.

1. Check all wiring and grounds to the maf. Get a multi meter and check the signals your Maf is sending.

2. Take off the maf and clean it out really good. Be delicate with the sensor inside. I've heard people just using brake clean.

3. Take off the IAC and clean it inside and out as much as you can get to.

If all else fails. Try to find another friend with a KA and borrow their MAF for a few minutes. See if it fixes the problem. I had a similar one a few months ago. I changed the IAC and all is well with the world.

No, My car would start up right away with the maf unplugged. If your gonna clean the maf use CRC electrical cleaner. Let me know what happens.

Alright sounds good. What kind of readings should I be getting from the MAF? And I definitely think that the ground cables for the MAF are a little screwed up. I am going to try and take a few pictures because there are a few wires that I am not to sure where they go.

550cc RX-7 Injectors (High Imp) Custom Tune on the ECU. I have an Apexi SAFC. We have it wired up but we used a jumper to bypass it for the sake of simplicity so that we can throw out as much variables as possible.

Thanks for everyone's input so far. I hope I can get this car running before school starts. It would be nice.
