When Hitting Gas Pedal Hard RPM's Go To 6,000 But There Is N

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

When my wife has her 2010 EX35 AWD Journey out for a ride and when she accelrates hard the RPM's shoot up to 6,000 but there is no accelration !! I know that your supposed to floor it for full accelration but it almost feels the 5-speed transmission is in "nuetral" !!!

Has anybody experienced this ?

That really does not sound normal. I would take it in asap.

Does it operate normally when you are not stepping into it?

When you mean accelerating, you mean torque-wise? The EX35 is not snappy, it`s basically a tamed G35. Sometimes, the torque is so smooth that you feel you are not accelerating.

EX35 acceleration is like a wave, it builds the torque and speed as you slowly pushing the pedal.

These are my observations:

1) You can tap the gas pedal quickly (a sec or 2) when you are on D mode, and you`ll see the tach goes up to 6k RPM and yet the car won`t move forward with great torque. = NORMAL

2) You are on M mode 1st or 2nd gear and very slowly gas it. RPM will rise up to 6K with no torque except engine gets noisier. = NORMAL

Typical for EX35. I guess for 2008 version  not sure about the 2010

I think your wife is not used to the car yet.

Warning: If you want instant torque, use the manual mode. Manual mode and sudden press of gas pedal (not slowly) is addictive. (Make sure you just let your wife drive it in D mode only) :gapteeth:

I have the same problem with my 2008 EX. When I push the GO pedal the engine will surge and it takes a second or two before anything happens. I do not believe this a torque problem. It is more of a driveability issue which is the result of engineers making poor choices involving the man and machine interface. I am guessing the throttle computer adapts to input signals. It appears that the computer has not adapted to my style of throttle application over the past two years and 23,000 miles.

I will learn to live with this problem and the next car I buy will not be an Infiniti.

I really don`t drive in D mode. I always drive in M . I hate the D mode due to lag in the computer system when you really needed to pass someone on the highway.

I have a feeling this is the electronic programing on the transmission or maybe on the throttle cpu or sensor. But, this lag is almost identical from my old 2008 Toyota RAV4 V6. The Rav4 haunts gears before surging forward when you floor the throttle.

I can't say I've ever noticed this happen, at least not to this degree. Whenever I floor the pedal, there's acceleration no questions asked, no matter what speed car is going at the moment. If I don't quite floor it but start accelerating with kinda slower rate, I've noticed that in D mode it can hesitate to speed up very rapidly (it still speeds up mind you), and then if you keep pressing the gas pedal, it starts accelerating much quicker eventually. It's as if car wants to make sure you want to really accelerate that much, probably to avoid making car feel twitchy - this is after all not meant to be racing car by default.

In DS shifter mode I have not noticed this however. The quick acceleration is much more immediate, and felt much more even at slower rate of pushing the gas pedal. I'd suggest oralloy to drive in this mode if he/she's not happy with regular D, but I guess this is a little too obvious thing to try... so I dunno, maybe some of these cars just have something messed up in their transmission learning system that mine doesn't.

Then there's of course manumatic mode, which I'm still learning how to use best, but from what I've seen it shifts extremely quickly (quicker than I could imagine myself being able to shift with regular manual anyways), it never hesitates to shift after you input the command, and essentially it gives complete control over the rate of acceleration at any moment.

you must shift slow....this Jatco shifts faster than my Aisin in my other car, but it is still slow.

I`ve been driving my 2008 EX35 for 2 years now and I have mastered the M mode already. I use M mode 99% of the time, the 1% is reverse :-)

From my experience, 3RD gear is a good passing gear on the highway (55- 70MPH) from 4th. That`s a sudden thrust forward!

If you are driving at 40-45 MPH at third gear, and decided to downshift to 2nd, just be careful . There is this 1 sec delay when shifting from 3rd to 2nd. It feels like the car boggs

down for a second as if you tap the break and then surge forward. So if you try to pass and there is a fast car behind you , he`ll hit your behind! Not sure if it`s a transmission issue or

computer issue, but be aware. I guess I should not be downshifting from 3rd to 2nd at 40-45 MPH, but I want that BMW 135i torque feel! Yeah. That`s my next car with JB3. :ohno:
