^^ Me too, about a month ago at 99K. Put on the water pump because it was leaking a few drops a day on the driveway. Put the new one on, let it idle for about 1/2 hour to burp all the air out and to make sure everything is ok. Pulled out, got exactly 6 driveways down... POP...4 inch crack in the radiator.

Thats the last plastic radiator I will ever trust.

mine started to make bubbles inside the radiator(as in the plastic, it had bubbles coming in the plastic), then it would just overheat after sometime of driving.

the pump went bad sometime before that....at 185k miles.

wait, so at 100k i should expect this to happen or something? sounds a little bit unpredictable. What are some causes of the water pumping going out anyway? dirty water in coolant? extremely hot driving? i dunno, there must be some rationale to this. Someone must know the answer!!

How do waterpumps go bad? The one on the KA-E is basically blades and a pulley connected by a rod, so what is there to go bad?

I have heard of some blades actually deintegrating due to bad coolant (red instead of green), but other than that.... Could you guys describe what exactly goes bad in them?

i don't believe they'd go bad cause of using red coolant rather than green.(cause then toyota wouldn't use it on their cars would they?)

it actually goes because the gasket(i think its rubber) that goes in the impeller(the shaft that gets moved by the belt) just gives out, so it starts leaking coolant.(the waterpump has a couple of holes from where it should start leakin coolant if that gasket is gone)

when mine failed... it would still spin, but the rad fan looked like it was spinning kinda off center, and if i revved it up past 3500 it would throw the belt...then when i would stop the engine, coolant would leak from the bottom of the shaft that comes out the front of it

When a water pump 'goes bad', it just leaks really bad. It doesnt stop pumping unless the shaft breaks (rare) or the impeller breaks up (also very rare).

you can tap the drain holes and block them with bolts if you need to keep driving the car while the new pump comes, I did this for about a week till mine came.

I had one in a kae go around 150k. The shaft got loose. I bought a new belt and pump and drove it until it seized and snapped the belt about a week later.

Mine crapped out when I was trying to bypass the power steering with a (too) small belt. Should've made an idler.

When mine died, i guess the bearing and seals gave out. I could tilt the rotating assemby (blades/shaft/pully) off its axis. It was pretty nasty. I guess vibration and wear killed the bearing or bushing inside and let the shaft move around and kill the seals. But it didnt give out until i pulled into my driveway, so props to nissan for that

when you say plastic radiator, do you mean the actual radiator? or the resovoir? cuz my radiator is metal and says " calsonic" on it. and it's factory. as was my maxima's.

OEM radiator for my car was an aluminum core w/ plastic endtanks on either side... it seems to be crimped on... as time goes by, the heat cycling of the plastic made it brittle... caused a leak @ the seam between the aluminum metal <-->plastic endtank.

I got a full-metal radiator for the replacement w/ lifetime warranty-- HOOT!
