in reverse or drive the rpms drop and i am losing power to the car engine. Giving the car more gas helps to maintain power but letting off the accelerator reduces rpms and power to the engine. the engine runs rough and sputters after i engage the shifter into drive or reverse.semms the car loses a lot of power when i engage it into drive or reverse. Large amount of shaking and vibration when the car is on. any ideas thank you

Is this because of a weak battery. I change the ignition wires and plugs.

sounds like misfiring, check to see if you installed the ignition wire incorrectly.

Can you pull out the wire one by one and see which cylinder is not firing? When you pull out, if there's no difference that cylinder is not firing. If you pull one of others, the engine is going to die or run really rough.

are you sure that you connected the wires in the correct order on the distributor cap, make sure the rotor and cap arent retarded or accelerated.

Yes i checked the wiring. everything is correct.

This was happening before i changed everything out. I thought this would improve the low amount of rpms and rough idle.

Can you tell if it's running on 3 cylinders or not? How about oil on spark plugs? Did you pull them out and check?

yes oil on the first plug. Had a valve gasket changed a month ago. Still oil on the first plug..might be because of left over oil in the chamber.

the car ran smoothly this morning and since the gasket change. then just started to run rough after 2nd use of car this morning. I thought changing the plugs wires and fuel filter might help.
