wheels wont turn!!!

im pullin my ka from my 89 240 and my wheels wont turn. i cant turn the car at all. wtf my steering is locked and i had to get a town druck just to put it in my driveway.i check the power steering fluid and its full but i have no idea what it could be.

Did the steering wheel "lock"?Are you trying when the car is running?

yea the steering wheel locked and i have everthing unbolted .just need to unbolt engine mounts and pull engine. and no the is not running. does the car have to be running?

If the steering wheel is "locked" you need to put they key in an unlock it. I'm not sure if the car has to be _running_ (I haven't tried it, but it _should_ just be a ***** to turn), but the steering column needs to be "unlocked".

i did that also and it still wont turn. i will ask around at some local shops.

well you could always remove the steering wheel locking mechanism.

try turning the steering wheel and the key at the same time to get it to unlock

ive tryied that a million times and nothing happens. and yes the key turns like i was going to start it but the wheel wont turn. i'm going to take the steering column apart to try to fix it. thanks for the replies

put your right hand at about "2 oclock" and your left hand at about "10 oclock" then move your right and left hand (while still on the wheel" to either the left or right. that usualy works for me

if the steering is locked as if the key was not in the ignition type of locked the only thing that keeps it locked is the ignition switch assembly(lock cyl) if you remove the break away bolts that hold it on you can lift it out of the lock pin hole in the coloum. and your wheel should turn. but if your steering wheel will move even a inch or 2 either way but just gets harder to turn the more you move i would think its just the lack of power asist.

try putting the front end on jack stands and see if it turns then.

silly question, but being as how you're removing the engine and all, is your battery connected?

battery is not connected but when it was it still didnt move
