Ok I have a 97 240sx se.I am looking at a set of 5zigen rims 17X7.Only come in 42mm and 48mm offset.

Using the offset calculator, I believe I will need to use a spacer, 10mm to keep the stock clearence to the shocks. But are spacers safe/good/bad?Thanks for your help.:help

spacers are fine.

spacers are not fine. do some searching! we discussed the spacer issues many, many times, in great detail. suffice to say, spacers are not a good idea, but sometimes become necessary, and if so:-get hub-centric spacers, and use longer wheel studs(NISMO makes them)
