I just got some wheels for my car, practically for free..but they are 17x8s

Will those fit or will there be rubbing issues? what size tires should I get?

the offsets are +42

on good offsets you can probably run 265 in the rear but on +42, probably only 225 all around

ah I left something important out..I have a 89 fastback.

Can I still run 17x8s with 225 tires all around?

you should sell them since they were almost free and put the profit towards wheels in better sizes. To answer your question, they will probably rub on coilovers, and they will look very sunk in.
