Hi guys,

My wheels if you stare at them from side to side, it appears that my entire front suspension set up is offset more to the right, making my right wheel pop out more than my left. The left wheel appears sunken more into the fender (offset not height) and my right wheel is jutting out by a very slight bit.

Could it be that my front sus cross member was installed incorrectly resulting in the offset being biased to the right? I calculated that in order to get everything sorted out i would need to move the whole front crossmember 1cm to the left to even out everything.

My question is: is it an easy or major job to realign the front crossmember? I know you would have to support the engine somehow and unbolt the entire front sus to move it.....or is it even movable by a centimeter in the first place??

This offset problem is really getting on my nerves when i eyeball my car. Anyone faced this problem before of an incorrectly installed front?

Thanks in advance!

If I remember correctly, the front cross member would only affect the power steering rack, aka the position of the tie rods. I'm not even 100% sure the power steering rack bolts to the front crossmember.

All other suspension components are bolted to the frame/chassis, so the "entire front suspension" should not be shifted at all, even if the power steering rack was over 1 cm to either side since you can adjust the tie rods, if anything.

1) have you already done an alignment?

2) did you measure the distance from inside your wheel well to the suspension or the inside of the wheel on each side? fenders are not the best way to measure the difference between left/right wheel position.

yes I have already did my alignment and it still seems off.

I surfed around the net to check the entire assembly of the s13's front suspension system and this is what i found

It seems that the entire front suspension is an independent system which bolts on to separate units which then bolt to the main frame. The tie rods are bolted to the crossmember and the tension rods are connected to two more brackets. Then the one more connector would be the suspension strut.

So with this in mind, i was thinking whether the entire system could just be shifted 1cm to the side to realign everything.

I'd do #2 (what I listed in my other post) first.

Put car on jack stands, remove the wheels, and measure from inside of the wheel well to each suspension part & verify if everything is really shifted, or if it was something else.

After that, if it really was shifted, I'd bring it to a body shop to have them measure/verify if the frame was straight. You could also do this by yourself w/ an FSM and some time (all the specs are in the FSM).
