this is a very frequently asked question and you should search on the forum. Their are a lot of threads about this so i suggest you go and look for them. But to help you out the rule of thumb is the closer u get to 0 offset the better although it also depends on your taste. Go to rimtuck.com and type in 240sx and looks through the pictures and see what offset you like best.
Good luck

thanks for the help and i have researched the only difference is that i want wider tires to get my 500 hp to the ground with a close to zero or zero offset im stuck at no wider then a 235 tire due to clearence so im wanting to do an offset to allow for wider tires and i cant find any threads out there on that one due to the fact that its not very common to go old school wide tire with a tuner.

There's not alot of 225/40/17 tires on the market. Between the more common 225/45/17 or 235/40/17, I'd pick the 235's.

if you want to run 275's, you gonna need a some high offset wheels unless you're planning on doing fender work. What's the plan on camber?

I myself Plan on using 225/35/18's in the front and 245/35/18's in the rear however my question is if i drop from the standard 45 offset to a 35 offset do you think that drop will be enough to fit these tire selections for clearance.

If it's on eight and nine inch wide wheels with 35 offset, you need to roll you fenders with those tire sizes, and a little bit more camber than stock depending on how low you are. I know cause that's what I run except on 17's

Wheels are definitely not my specialty Ive been having a hard time finding any that are the size i want, even going to manufacturers sites cant seem to find exactly what i want. I wanted to have 8 wide in the back but the only time i can seem to find that is on an 18, what id prefer is to have a 17x7 in the front and 17x8 in the rear. Any suggestions where to start looking?

17x8 or 9 front, 17 or 18 9-10.5 rear. Check out the offset threads.
