There is a lot of info on this recall, buried in older posts here.

There are actually 2 wheels this size and looks with slightly different width. One for I30, one for Q, but truth be told, they are functionally interchangeable in my mind, as the one width, still agrees with the other and vice versa.

Also remember they are still factory wheels , if there was a recall tha just means they dont meet the strict factory standards in some way.

They may still be much stronger+ lighter+ rounder, than comparable aftermarkets, as those often meet no standards at all.

Fred..:)

One post mentioned that the recall can only be "executed" with the rims on the car covered by the recall. That would not work unless you have a 99 or 2000 (or whatever year it was) Q to take them in for recall. That's assuming these haven't been taken care of already or may not even be part of the recall. Does anyone (speaks in Joe's direction) know how to tell by a lot number or something on the rim. Or is it just a matter of the VIN number being recorded that it was "taken care of"?

Okay, I created more questions than I may have answered :D, sorry.

Uhhhh, Fred, I'm sorry, I must respectfully disagree, I researched this issue extensively. The issue is the wheel center may separate from the rim causing obvious lack of control of the car. there was a thread where one of our members also posted the serial numbers of the affected wheels.

I'm with Q45Viper. Cracks around the hub are not to be ignored.

To Infiniti's credit, they were very aggressive on this recall unlike Ford with the Explorers with underinflated tires, or the SHOs with failed cam to sprocket fittings.

I love those wheels and I wanted those for my 91 Q. Alas, what they say is true. Cracked rims are not good. :(

Some of the "dates" like "report received" & "added" all say 2003, seems like those may be wrong, but the production run dates 19991101 to 20001130 seem logical.

EDIT: That would be right, Spring of last year. :thinker

INTRODUCTIONInfiniti has determined that some 2000-2001 model year Infiniti Q45 vehicles may have a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety. The alloy wheels used on these vehicles may have a casting defect that could cause cracks to develop as the vehicle is being driven. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer’s inventory. Federal law requires that new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While federal law applies only to new vehicles, Infiniti strongly encourages dealers to correct any used vehicles in their inventory before they are retailed.
