my stock alloys weighed about 35lbs, i was shocked when i weighed my 17x7.5 215 45s yesterday and discovered it weighed 50 lbs . are my oz rims, crappy, heavy pieces of junk, or should i expect that much weight gain?

most tires that size weigh over 20 lbs, and id guess your wheels are somehwere between 16 and 20 lbs. 50 seems like a lot though..

You should expect that much weight gain in larger sized wheels that are one piece pressure cast or similar(cheap method for mass production, not necessarily a bad process, just not cutting edge technology)

The only way around it is to invest in (smaller) forged lightweight wheels, or stick with OE wheels.

I use 15" wheels from the '80's, until I can convince myself to buy some forged 17" Fikse in black satin.

or gram lights

lol Lighter=better...

usually in the world of wheels you can go a few ways1.bigger2.lighter3.cheaper4. stronger

pick any 3, IE a bigger(say 17") stronger and lighter wheel WONT be cheap..

you can find cheap strong big wheels..but they're heavy..wat

likewise, larger, cheap light wheels exist, but they use poor materials or casting tchniques that makes them weak

strong, cheap, light wheels are ususally smaller...

etc, etc-chet
