I have the 2007 M35 (non-sport) and am considering upgrading wheels. It looks to me that the Sport version uses 19" versus 18" but the overall diameter is also larger.

I don't know much about cars and wheels, so I'm hoping to get some advice. I was planning on getting 20" wheels, but didn't want to sacrifice too much of the ride, and I do also want to have a smaller wheel-well gap. How large can I go when it comes to overall diameter? Who would be able to adjust the speedometer in terms of the different revolutions/mile?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Also, are there disadvantages to going with a larger overall diameter? I assume it affects things like the ride comfort, suspension, abs, fuel economy?

Ride comfort only due to you using a lower profile tire to keep the same, or close as possible, overall diameter of the tires. ABS and fuel economy I would say NO if you keep the same tire height, and a possiblility if there is a significant raise in wheel/tire combo weight. I think for the most part though most aftermarket wheels are lighter that OEM wheels but once you go to large chrome wheels that might not be true.

Many after-market wheels are not strong enough too. I would be careful about inexpensive wheels that cannot support the weight of the car - static or dynamic.

FWIW, I strongly recommend spending your money on getting outstanding tires instead! That is where all the action happens, and gets you the performance, ride and handling that you would want.

My opinion, only, of course!

The overall tire height for the wheels/tires on the Sport Model is already taller than the one for the non-sport. Even if I was just to buy the stock wheels/tires from the sport model, I would still need to get the speedometer (and whatever else) adjusted, right?
