i know people are concerned about getting light wheels (some people), but is anyone ever concerned about how much the tire weighs? i'm sure different tires are different weights, but if you found a 17" wheel that weighed exactly the same as stock 15" wheels, could you get a wider 17" tire that weighs the same or less than the 15" tire so you're not adding weight? it looks like (based on bridgestone's site that lists weights) even though the sidewall is shorter the wider tread makes the 17s weigh more.

i just got "new" wheels (from the nico b/s/t) to replace my non-stock and heavy 17's so i weighed a stock 15x6.5 piepan wheel with old dry-rotted 215/65-15 yokohama S306's and it came out to 38lbs. i weighed my new 17x8 OZs with 245/45-17 goodyears and they are only 5 lbs heavier - not too bad in my opinion, i know someone with stock 5th gen maxima 17's that weigh 50lbs with smaller tires.

long post, but i'm just wondering about tire weights. most manufacturers don't list their tire weights (at least where they're easy to find). sorry, i don't know if there's actually a question up there :D , but any thoughts from the tire experts?

There are several tires that are lighter than most. Some of the heavier tires would be the S03 and the Falken Azenis.

Lighter tires being the Michelin Pilot Sports and the Pirelli PZero's

I personally think the Goodyears are heavy as well.

I remember reading somewhere that said Toyo Proxy T1S's were pretty light (for it's class)...or maybe it said they were pretty heavy. Errrr...I guess I didn't help any. :o

toyos are fuggin heavy, as well as the zenis, parada, and s-03.

the goodyear gsd3 is lighter, as with the Pzero and pilot sport and pilot sport 2 (this is becuase the later three use aramid fibers and not necessarilly steel belts)
