Hello everyone. I am new to this forum. I am a regular at club 4ag. I hope people are as helpful as they are on 4ag.

Anyway, I searched your site and could not find an answer to my question.

I am trying to find out if I can get 235/45/17 tires to fit on my RPS13 (1991 240sx hatch). My wheels are work 17/7 and have a +47 offset. The wheels originally were on a mazda Luce (929 in USA) and had the same tire size i want to put on my RPS13. I have personally seen 235/45/17's on both a silvia and 180sx and have seen 245/40/17 on front of one also. I have the tires mounted on the wheel now but they won't bolt up because the bottom of the spring and the inside top part of the tire both want to occupy the same space, but the spring is winning. I have stock suspension and was just test fitting the wheels and tires because old man winter is fast approaching, so the wheels are going to sit in my garage for the winter...I just want to resolve this problem prior to my sr turbo swap during the winter. Will a spacer help and if so, how thick? Will aftermarket suspension help or hurt my clearance problems? I am getting several items in the next couple of months for my car, so I can add whatever i may need to get the wheel issue solved to my large and somewhat expensive list of things i must have...Thanks in advance.Gregg

it's your offset. i think a spacer would work, but it would have to be fairly big. i bet a +40mm offset would allow that tire.

40mm or lower. 47mm will rub the strut.

I bought 5/16" spacers and they were not enough, but it seemed like the tires were at the edge of the wheelwell. I guess since 5/16" is only about 10mm or so, it would take a big spacer to do it. I talked to Tirerack.com and they will swap out a different size. I had them calculate out 225/45/17 and it is 7mm taller than stock and I think it will clear. It appears I have about a 1 cm on top of the stock tire. Does anyone know if a 225/45/17 will fit with a +47 offset? I believe that is the size that the project silvia is running on a + 34? offset with a 10mm spacer? I cant find the mag right now. All help much appreciated.Gregg

Well, I am not so sure about what these wheels were for before. they came off of a friends' Mazda Luce (Mazda 929 in USA). I saw in a magazine lately (can't remember the name of it) they have a "Project Silvia" and it said that they needed a +38 to clear 225/45/17. They were using a +43 wheel with a 5 mm spacer. Since i have a +47 wheel I am thinking i need a 9mm spacer and to swap down from 235/45/17 to a 225/45/17. Does this sound like it will work? Please help...I dont want to keep swapping to get it right. I also do not want to go to much smaller tire. I will have smaller tires to drift with (in the future) I just want these to drive in.Gregg

I won't put 9mm spacers on factory studs aren't long enough not save, you can buy longer studs or adapters spacers but cost more money... 215 ZR45 17 are good size for the front

I am going to go to 225/45/17 for front. I am going to get the longer studs and spacers for it and see what happens. I will let everyone know when I know. I guess I will be the guinea pig on this one since nobody (except Super Street) seems to have any info posted on offset/tire size and clearance (I do have pics in option/option2/car boy etc of 180/silvia with these sizes (235/45/17 and 255/40/17 (which fits fine)) on their cars but no offset info...I hope someone can give me the info I need before i get the spacers and longer studs.Gregg

Here are few popular offsets for S13

Front 17x7 +35 or +32Rear 17x8 +35 or +38

longer studs and hubs will do it but just cost more

255 rear kind of wide for S13.. 235/45 is wide enough.. beside don't think 255 on 17x7 are so good ideal

the rear wheels are 17/9 and i like the wide look. I dont want a drag car (i have had a couple) I want a good all around car that is quick, but I want to drift too...gripping is fun, and beating unsuspecting mustangs is very good too! I aspire for around 350~ ps for my RPS13 eventially, hardly a drag car but want something nice to daily drive or use on weekends...

SR180, thanks for the info. I plan on lowering it this winter, so i will keep the rubbing thing in mind. I forgot the rear offset I have, but will be pulling the wheels off next week so i can put them away for winter...Thanks for the offset info, i missed it last time i posted...Gregg
