My first set of wheels I bought didn't clear the Z32 brakes I had on, so I bought spacers and installed longer wheel studs. I just got new wheels and I no longer need the spacers. Can I reinstall the stock studs I removed before, or do you think I'd run into the problem of them turning. My dad suggests grinding the longer studs I have on now down, but I'm a little leery of doing that. Or the last option I guess would be to cough up money for new ones.

yea, you should be able to put on the oem ones back on without trouble if you didn't have any problems with the extended studs to begin with.

Why not just keep them on?

I wouldn't do it..

the studs have to have the little grove at the end for lugnut engagement... otherwise you'll just end up stripping any lugnut you try to put on.

The extended studs bottom out on my lug nuts before the tighten the wheel all the way. I just ordered some, they were less expensive then I initially thought.

lol... you know, they DO sell extended lugnuts. Companies like project kics, rays, work, 5zigen, muteki and a few others are just a few to name.

but yeah, oem studs should be pretty cheap. I think I picked up a set for like a buck each or something like that.

And of course there is also open ended lug nuts. I bought a handful of Gorilla open ended nuts from Discount Tire a while back for a $1 a piece.I just recently ordered a set of the Muteki SR48's for about $55 shipped. That is the most I will pay for lug nuts. They are also not aluminum which really appeals to me.

+1

only thing is, I've heard a lot of complaints where people say that the key breaks easily

Yeah wheel studs are cheaper, and I don't want those open ended nuts. Can't remember the brand I got anymore but they are keyed nuts and paid like 60 bucks.

I have read similar accounts. Personally, I have yet to break a lug key of any kind. I torque my wheels down to 75ft. lbs. and no more.I am holding the Muteki key and the Gorilla key, and they are equally weighted. They both appear to be made of the same tool steel. I am going to try and not concern myself with this Muteki key cracking, however I will admit that you have planted a seed.Fortunately I have a deepwell Craftsman socket of the appropriate size as a back up.
