I am looking into getting some new wheels and have pretty much picked the kind i want but am having some trouble with what size to pick. I am getting some SSR Reverse Mesh wheels that come in sizes ranging from 15.0*6.0 up to 16.0*9.5I have a 91 coupe and looking for the right size for my car. I was wondering if any of you guys could give me some advice as to what is good size for the car.I am planning on doing some autocross in the future after the engine is fixed, if that helps any.:help :D

I think 16's are an inch too small. 17's are my favorit. I think that 215/40/17 or is it 215/45/17 not sure. But that what i like.

you need to consider out what tire you want to mount on

15x6 you are kind of stuck with 205s tires, at least that's true for yoko avs es10016x7 you can go 225s with an upgraded suspension17s are too big if you want to drive fast, imo, if you get them you better hvae **** load of horse power and get at least 17x8 so you can support 245s or wider

correct me if I am wrong, just my silly opinion

you want smaller tires to loose traction on streets, so if your drifting in autox, then stock or a size bigger would be ok. me personally i am keepin my stock rears, and for front, im going to have 1 size smaller (maybe depends on my ride drop)

It's the 45's for 17x7 wheels

i would reccomend 17's for show or 16's for performance. i would go with a wider wheel, because i think the look of filling the fenders is better than any body kit youll find. a 16x8 and 16x9 would look sick in my opinion.

I agree with whiterps13, 16x7.5 or 8 is what I'm going to run once the group buy at tougefactory starts up again for the DT-05R wheels (or whatever they're called).

for performance and street racing do you want wider or narrower?

Wider for more contact patch and thus traction, narrow for less rolling resistance. That's why those super fast dragsters have the bicycle wheels up front, they don't need traction for turns.

It is possible to go too wide if you are not pushing enough power to use the traction and taking on extra weight of the wheel and rubber.

go with the 16x9 or 16x9.5 with anywhere from a +20 to a 0 offset you may have to roll your fenders or even pull them a hair but it is free and easy to do

I am only going to say this once in this thread, because there seems to be some confusion about contact patch and grip:

CONTACT PATCH AREA DOES NOT VARY BY SIZE OF THE TIRE. PERIOD.

also, any wheel application will depend on its intended use, road race, autocross, street, whatever...

what considerations are there? budget constraints?

as for an autocross wheel, a 16x7 or 16x7.5 in a 30mm offset would work great with tomse 225-50-16's, theres plenty of sticky tires in that size.-chet

but 16x9 or 16x9.5 with a 0 offset looks so sweet!
