After getting my coilovers all installed i put new tires on and had issues getting them balanced. My mechanic has a Hunter 9000 balancing machine and actually sent 2 tires back to tire rack saying they thought that was the issue. So now at 65-70 I start to get a shaking, it smooths out around 90, but since most of commute is 80 this is annoying.

I have told my mechanic that I think I should go to tire place to check balance but he swears they did it 5x times and now they believe the only thing left is a new power steering rack...I would do that (I guess that would run me a grand or more) but this is really pissing me off.

At this point I am starting to look out of the corner of my eye at the 2016 Q50 Sport with 3.0 liter twin-turbo and cut bait...but any other suggestions???

Jeff-
Before changing the rack, do the rack bushings (maybe). But really, it sounds like either wheel balance or rotors. Have you tried burnishing the pads/rotors recently to burn off the glaze?

Okay, thanks. So I did replace the rack bushings..right after I got the coilovers those went south immediately. The brakes are brand new. I will have the mechanic check the ball joints. As a test I took the car to Wheel Works which has a Road Balance machine. They told me the wheels were out of balance and re-did all the weights. I was so excited but on the freeway the shaking just started at 70 instead of 60. I am going back there tomorrow and see if they will take one more pass at it..then back to my mechanic for one last try at finding it.

I think if it needs a rack that is part of my car fund for a Q50 Sport Twin Turbo at Christmas time.

....but did they clock the tire on the rim to get the minimum residual out of round? that is the point of road force. Most tire places say 28lb residual is the spec, but I always ask for less than 15, and won't leave if it's not less than 20. there is always a sweet spot of matching the tire to the rim.
you still may need to fully 'bed' the brakes. also, were the rotors replaced and verified within 0.003" runout?
I know I know details. but they count.......

My mechanic put brand new Brembo rotors on recently (2-3k ago) I will take it back to the wheel works place and ask them to do more to find out the issues, check brakes everything. I paid them $75 for about 15 minutes of work. When they told me "all your tires were out of balance" was thinking great I have finally solved this.

It is going back on next dry day and I will tell them I will authorize up to 300 bucks to figure this out. If I have to buy a new rack I'm out of the game, Christmas time new Q50 or GS450 H...or something.

I will report back, thanks 3Q for the detailed information.

A possible solution I just recalled I had to do when I had my 300zxturbo- I used to have the wheels/tires balanced ON THE CAR- this takes into account every rotating component and balances all that as a system.

That is what I have done, called Load Force balance, essentially it just moved the shake point to 70 MPH. I took it back to them again and they made it worse. I keep hoping this is a balance issue, they managed to stip out a lug nut when remounting the wheel so I will take back in a week and hope they can figure out.

I will report back, hopefully the load force with a good technician will solve this.

FINALLY fixed. I got rid of the M45 wheels and the spacer, went to some Tire rack new wheels and much smaller spacers. I didn't plan to use the spacers but due to BC Coilovers the fronts didn't fit. I got hubcentric spacers and then finally smooth!!!!!

Well now i have to drive the old girl for another 5 years or so, the MPG sucks but it is paid for and handles like a go card.

Yes, I will post up pics soon. I have to get the spacers installed on the rear of the car this week. I have also had my house catch fire (out on a deck due to what appears electrical issue) so I don't live in my house!!!! But the garage was not effected so my Q and my old 84' are safe. Good timing since I plan to drop another 20-30k into the house so my Q60 money is gone.

Pics soon, but lots of others issues on my push down list!

I haven't taken pics yet, the car is HAMMERED with dust from the house and the dry wall broken out. I have to use my truck living in my temp house, miss driving the Q, hope to be home in a few months and get it washed sometime when the Bay Area finally dries up next week

Ugg... drywall dust is the worst. I stripped about 2000SF of popcorn ceilings in a house we're renovating down the street for my mom. To deal with the dust I put on a pesticide rated dust mask, opened all of the windows, and blew the dust outside with an electric leaf blower. The house looked like it was on fire, and the dust cloud could be seen rising over the roof in the front from the back yard! If you ever try this, remember ear plugs... those electric leaf blowers put out a wicked high pitch whine that I didn't fully appreciate until I turned it off and still heard it for about a day.

I need to get to a car wash, considering even grabbing a cover for it until the project is completed. I have been driving my 6MT Xterra back and forth 40 miles each way to work and (sadly) miss my slush box and more comfy interior.
