keep stock if you ask me. their not TOO small, but their not bling blingin'. 17's look cool. 18's are impressive. 19's are teh expensive and 20's are stupid. i wouldn't go any higher than 17's due to weight. that's why 16/17 are my oppinion

16's, no doubt about it. Weight, ride quality, turn in, tire cost. Its a very happy medium.

I like 17s but I have to many sets of stock alloys. I'm 5 lug now and time to track down new rims.

I had 17s for a while. Nice way to spend a little over $500 every 15K - 20K miles. I bought Anand's old 15s, cleaned them up and balanced them, and bought a brand new set of Nittos for $240. Same tread width as my old 17s, WAY better offset, no fugly gap between my calipers and rims, and well, damn. I'll never go back.

Actually, a friend of mine has some 14" Watanabes. I don't know how they fit, since common knowledge is that 14s don't fit, but DAMN, that's a mean profile. If you can make it happen, sidewall can be your friend.

16... biggest size we can get without lots of $

good fitting 17s are hard to get besides the typical. can require 5 lug conversion = big $, of course some sort of brake upgrade while youre at it also lots of $, and lots more money on tires.

if i had cash to dish up some 17s i'd want spacers and rear upper control arms while im at it. i wouldnt want to daily drive my car with negative camber eating up the tires. so i'll need spacers for track days while i do some negative cambering and also to flush it i wont be happy paying so much for wheels if they look sunken in, and of course the rucas for it.

ill need atleast 4k for some nice 17" wide wheels. 500+ for each forged wheel about 2k~, 600 a set of low profile meaty tires with super grip, like 3 different types of lock nuts/locks not sure how much, spacers maybe 200, rucas probably 300, and 5 lug conversion... we all know how expensive that can be even if its oem s14 se or z. i think ill stick with the 16s for a while lol. all that and i didnt even add the brake upgrade =/

so i vote for 16" best fitment, cheapest tires 350 can get a nice set of rubber, forged wheels can be anywhere from 250-400 a piece overall pretty cheap. unless you dont mind running 17" wheels with like +4000000 offset and with crappy tires. or 5zigen

Anymore than 16" is going to add to more weight/cost, unless you were to get lightweight 17's then you would break-even with weight vs. a light weight 16" rim, but 15's own all, lightness, cheap tires, etc. I just don't like how teeny tiny they look on my coupe.

Is it just my eyes or what?

He asked for wheels that are the best FOR ALL AROUND EVERYTHING not for just what you like. I dont think this is a opinion question at all. Of course 16" is best.

FYI: Nismo used 16x7 +33 for the front and 16x8 +38 for development of suspension components for the S13, and 17x8.5 +33 front and 17x9.5 +38 rear for S14 R&D. IMHO no one knows better than Nismo. When I get new wheels, I plan on 16x8 all around, hopefully less than +40 offset.

(Nismo sizes are from Nismo Manual Number TY-530-B2 for the Nismo S-Tune Coilvers if case anyone wanted to question the source for my info )

This is completely subjective....

There is no "all around everything", no....just no.

What brakes are we trying to clear? Are we trying to grip or slide? There are so many variables.

I mean, if you're really serious about wheels, you buy Technomagnesio Rally wheels.

They're 17", cost $3700/set, and weigh THREE KILOS EACH.

They're also only available in orders greater than 24 wheels, custom from Technomagnesio, for purposes of outfitting a rally team.

Talking about "the best", or "all around" is pointless, because there's always something that's just leagues better and more expensive, but not something any of us would ever own.

Point taken; this IS subjective, but at the same time it creates a meaningful discussion. Sure, talking about "the best all around" is ultimately pointless, because in all actuality, it simply does not exist. Fact is, people have been arguing like this since Plato. (For those in the know, consider The Republic, Book X.) Regardless, the information generated out of this question IS NOT pointless. There ARE rim/wheel setups that ARE more versatile, period.

You wouldn't throw on a set of Hoosiers slicks if you were driving through the Rocky Mountains, just like you wouldn't take your snow tires to the drag strip.

It's common sense, right? Still, we're making a 1:1 comparison. Now, what if you needed your tires to last you a long time on rough roads but didn't want to give up dry traction? Then it becomes a matter of what is BETTER in a more versatile situation, and less of, "Which is better, A or B?"

Furthermore, if we begin to define desireable qualities in a wheel, such as light-weight, strength, low cost, and predictable traction, then we can define the ideal, but admittedly nonexistant, wheel. A wheel being better in an "all-around" sense, then, is one that more closely approaches this IDEAL.

That said, I think your perfect Technomagnesio $3700 3kg wheels fall even shorter than heavier Konigs and 5Zigens. Why? You said it yourself: "There's always something that's just leagues better and more expensive, but not something any of us would ever own." See what I mean? Why would it be better? Any wheel is better than one you can never have, right?

Therefore, a BETTER wheel DOES exist, and these discussions ARE worthwhile. Always.
