Has anyone had trouble with the wheel paint chipping off the Y50 19" OEM sport wheels? There were a few scratches on mine when I bought the car from when the tires were changed - right around the hub centric ring, but the paint has been coming off much faster in recent months. I hand wash the wheels, so I hope the upkeep and cleaning isn't related to the paint coming off.

Anyone else having trouble? Is this something that could be covered under warranty?

Thanks guys

When I bought my car there were some small places on my wheels (same as yours) like you describe. I have not seen them get any worse over time, and I wash my car at least once a week.

For what it's worth, my local service department offers to refinish them for me at $150 a wheel. Can anyone else chime in on if this is a decent price?

A buddy of mine has a mobile wheel repair shop that charges $75 per wheel, this doesn't seem like something the dealership would be any good at fixing.

They have a 3rd party guy come in and do them at/through the dealership once a week.

Thanks for the update on the pricing

They are all over, they've done work for quite a few of my friends and do really nice work. They carry a ton of OE paint colors, and will be refinishing mine the same color as the new 20" M sport wheels pretty soon. Will post pics

The same thing is happening to my wheels now with 130K miles. They probably just need to be refinished. I use www.wheelsamerica.com

130k I would understand, I have just over 61k though.

I haven't had any trouble with paint chipping off of my Y50 19" OEM sport wheels, but I had trouble with the finish fading away. I got the dealership to refinish/paint my rims because they scratched my rims when adding in new tires, and the paint shop I took them to only charged $150 for all 4 wheels. I got the shop to "match" the OEM finish look, (but came out gunmetal). BlinG*, I think that $150 per wheel is too much to refinish, you should shop around for a better deal.

I would think the upkeep and cleaning of the rims has relation to the paint coming off, as is frequently detailing your car. Also, I don't think the refinishing of rims would be covered under warranty, but if you could make a case...it wouldn't hurt to try.

contacted these guys today, going to get this done within a week if possible. thanks for posting this link, as it is only going to cost me $50 per wheel, compared to the rape from the dealership.
