*giggle*

1) FWD - Front Wheel Drive2) RWD - Rear Wheel Drive3) offset - not correlated with 1 and 2

Well I don't really know what offset is either, I was just pointing out FWD and RWD. Didn't mean to sound mean if I did!

*sigh* offset is how far out or in a wheel is compared to the car/suspension. IE a high offset wheel sticks into the car more, giving more room between the fender and the tire, and lower offset makes the wheel stick out farther, making the fender and tire closer together. Generally you want an offset below 30 or 35 for better looks and better grip. Say for example you want a 17 inch rim that is 7 inches wide, you would want something like a 17x7 with a 30 offset, I think with an 8 inch wide rim the more offset you can get away with but I'm not quite sure on how that works. Maybe this will help you out http://www.zilvia.net/faqs/offset/wheelstires.asp

i have +32 on my s14 both front and rear . the cars handles great and the wheels and tires fit the wheel well perfectly. now the new ones i'll get would be somewehre around + or - 0 that is a totally different story. just don't hate on the 30+ or more offsets:D

nuh dude , i have lowering springs tein s tech .. the tires i have are 225 andthe rims are 17x7 . i could probably fit 235s in the rear but i did not want to push it cuz the rim is only 7 inches wide. but the handling and the look of it is pretty good . and nothing rubs or hits anything and the rims are semi deep dish

actually offset has to do w/ the center hub and the centerline of the wheel IIRC...look in the suspension forums for pictures and diagrams

Wayne's Wheels! Wayne's Wheels! Party Time! Excellent!

The guy obviously doesn't know wth he's doing selling rims - overpriced, mis-informed, and some pretty FUGLY lookin wheels... I'd suggest NOT buying from that site.

WHY HAVE YOU NOT SEARCHED THE TIRE FORUM FOR YOUR ANSWERS!!??!!1

Offset is the measured distance from the centerline of the wheel(the VERY middle of the wheel) to the bolt pad, ie: the spot that bolts to the car.

This distance is critical when fitting aftermarket wheels and tires, because it along with width dictate where a given tire/wheel assy will fit within the fenderwell.

Nissan's 240sx alloy 7 spoke wheel is 6" wide with a +40mm offset. It's a relatively high offset, but it's also a narrow wheel. The wider wheels require a lower offset, to maintain safe distance from suspension components on the backside of the tire/wheel assy.

Chet has a very good post in the FAQ about offset. The important thing to remember is the higher the number, the more it will push things in toward the suspension and the lower the number, the closer to the fenders you will be. SmithSR is right on the money for the correct offsets you should be looking at.
