I recently bought a 1991 Twin Turbo for $2300 w/ 154K. Why so cheap is because the rear suspension is pretty awful. The driver side rear sits lower than the passenger side.. Apparently the previous owner hit a deer and spun out....Driver fender looks a bit dented and hood wont close properly....The problem is that when I try to accelerate at first gear, the rear wheel hops producing a "thunking noise" but not that crazy. Sometime when i time it perfectly at slow launches, it does not hop. But when I take off quick, it acts up.... And when I hit a bump, the rear eratically sways causing the rear end to loose control. Swirving!! Pretty scary to drive. People say its my rear shocks but I wanted to find out from the PROs' first. I will take pictures of the rear. sway bar bushing/control arms (upper/lower)/shocks etc.

Yeah pictures would help alot. How did he hit a deer with the back of the car? or he hit something else afterward?

The wheel "hop" could be a number of things, including worn out bushings or related to a bent/damaged suspension component. You should probably get all new rear suspension components, starting with any that are definitely damaged. If one side sits higher than the other, the strut assembly on the lower side is damaged. Your sway bar could also be bent. All the bushings will also probably need to be replaced.

I would go get and alignment check first. While up in the air, grab each of the suspension components, and give it a good tug for movement. Hopping can be just old sub-frame bushings. Thunking noise could be also drive shaft bearing. THe rear swaying/swirving could be a bad hi-cas system also.

I think its your drive shaft that causes the little bouncing feeling and noise , I have the same problem, the drive shaft is like out of the bearing or holding thing it belongs in..... also feel it when im down gearing to slowdown or something

The rear struts don't look that bad (minus the dust boots) but it looks like your HICAS unit is all jacked up. You should just get a delete kit for it, it will cost more to fix it right.
