How will 20x8.5 +39 front and 20x9.5 +43 look on our cars? I know they fit but not sure how they would look. Some guidance please. What about tire size?

I think you would definitely need a drop!! I did 20" on my 07 m35 few years ago and the front was sitting too high.... I think 245/30/20 the 30 series was too thin for sure on a 20"... Not the case for 22" though. Other than that, Those measurements sound like you'll be fine!! Do the tires like 06M4.5 recommended! 235/35 and 275/30!

check out my spring fs thread. i got pics of my m. its on 20x9 all around w/ +15 offset. im running 245/35/20 on all 4 corners. i feel 30 is too thin, and 35 keeps the vdc system happy. its crucial to keep the tire sizes in check otherwise the car gets finnicky

Ok, So I am very moderately dropped (Tein H Tech).

I looked at the tire size calculator and it looks like 245/35/20 and 285/30/20 is a perfect diameter compared to stock. So I guess the question is, Can I run 245/35 and 285/30 without problems? I think it's ok but I wanted to get an opinion.

yes but it all depends on what offset the wheels have. more important the rears.

I think the 285/30/20" is too wide a tire for the 9.5" rear! I'm running 275/30/20" on my 20x10" rear wheel and it sits perfect! I'm running a 245/35/20" on a 20x9" up front so in terms of width you are right on the money with 235/35/20" front 8.5" wheel and 275/30/20" rear 9.5" wheel!! :bigthumb:

I run 295 series tires on a 20x9.5 rims on my FX so 285 on a 9.5 is not too wide. As 06M4.5 pointed out, it's really the offset that will determine if it'll fit without rubbing.

So based on more references on the other M forums (FA), 245/35 front and 275/30/20 rear are what I need for my wheels.

235/35 & 275/30 are the matching size

if you go 245/35 & 275/30 the front tire will be taller, making the rear look smaller.

Maybe I should run spacers in the rear.

So with my current offsets, I'm assuming you think/know I will rub in the inside of the rear with 285s. What spacer would allow me to clear the rear using 285? another 10mm?

The only spacer you would need is a 10mm for the front. No spacer for the rear.

If the 285/30 rubs you can always fix it with camber. the problem is that the sidewall of the tire will change with a 9.5" wheel and may rub.

but I still would say go for the 235/35 & 275/30 this will not give you any problems at all. put them on and drive away.

Now I can tell you that a 20x10" wheel with a 43et will not rub with a 285/30

good luck, Freddie

Fix camber? So go more negative to avoid rubbing the outside on the fenders? I thought the inside would be a problem... In any event, I shot an email to Ravspec for advice. I have a feeling he will also say 235/35 and 275/30. I will let you know and pix to follow as soon as I can slap on my wheels.

Ok, Confirmed that 235/35/20 and 275/30/20 is the safest fitment. Off to shopping tires!!

on a 9.5 wheel i used to have 275/35/19 and it was pretty meaty. granted every brand of tire sits a little differently. on my m i currently have 245/35/20 on 9 all around and it is a mild stretch but looks good

I was really hoping for 245/35/20 and 285/30/20 for matching set to purchase matching continentals... Tire selection is very limited if I run 235/35/20... I think I will either run two separate brands or run slightly bigger tires upfront...

I run a 245/35/20 up front and 275/30/20, and I think they "match" just fine. I just went and looked at it after reading this thread and I can't tell if the front is taller than the rear at all.

I say get the 245/35 up front and 275/30 in the rear.

You can do a search of my screen name and I have pics up of my set up.
Either way good luck!!

What tire brand are you running? I did some searching and the difference varies on brand. Toyo only has a 0.1 overall diameter variance. Hankook and continental has 0.3 overall variance. Nitto has 0.2 overall variance.

Even the highest difference of .3 probably wouldn't be noticeable to the naked eye.

I figured it's hard to tell how much taller each side is... I am going to buy Toyo T1S 245/35/20 and 275/30/20 I think that's the best option. Too bad I can't run 285.

You could run a 285 it might just look a little fat or it might look like normal. All depends on the brand of tires. I've seen people run a 305 on a 10" rim and 275 on a 9". I'm sure if you search the net you could find someone with a 285 on a 9.5".
