I own a 2001 I30.

I noticed two weeks back a wheel clicking noise from the left side of the car. I took the car in for repair since I needed new rear brakes and mentioned the clicking. They also rotated the wheels and balanced the tires. Well they replaced the brakes and said that it would probably fix the clicking too.

Today I noticed the clicking back. I happens when I am accelerating or just driving. The noise is different but still present when I am in reverse. It is a continuous repetitive click and it varies with the speed of the car. The noise stops when I press the brake.

Any thoughts? Hope it's not a major issue cause the brakes were bad enough.

Thank you in advance.

hi, it probably is a major issue because brakes won't make a clicking sound

we've been through this a few times here recently so check out older posts but most of the clicking in wheels is associated with: cv boots/shafts, wheel bearings or transmission. check the cv boots for any cracks or holes, with the car up check if you have free play on the wheel - bearing, and the transmission clicking - someone had this problem here but i'm not good at those.

I paid more attention on the clicking noise. It doesn't always start. Like today it didn't start until about 15 - 20 minutes into my commute. Also, it gets louder with higher speed.

I guess it is bad news that it is a major problem. I am guessing that it will be expensive to fix too. Ah the joys of owning a car.

go to a few shops and ask them for quotes on repair - should be free - and you'll know what's wrong and if you can fix it yourself.

read these, maybe you'll find an answer:

I have a 98 maxima and mine did that about 4 years ago after getting brakes put on. It would stop when I applied the brake so I took it back and they either put new clips on or regreased something but it fixed it. Might want to take it back to whoever did the brakes, especially if it wasn't doing it before they installed them.
