Need some input on my search for a wheel to use in this application.

Datsun PL510 with 280ZX front struts, Z31 5-bolt hubs & rotors (the later ones from the '88-'89), Z32 4-pot calipers.

My application is Targa style rallying (over bumby paved roads) which leads me to want to go no lower than a 50 series tire and my maximum tire diameter is 24" without having to do a lot of mods.

I am leaning toward using a 15" x 7" rim with an offset of no more than +20mm. (which I think is about a 4.75" backspacing) and a 225/50 x 15 tire (Toyo Proxes).

Anybody know of a 5 x 4.5" 66mm. bore wheel like this ?

What about Z31 wheels? Or am I missing something there?

You could always look into an H&R cnc machined hub-centric spacer.. which would allow for some easier wheel selection. Then you could choose from a wider range of wheels with more common offsets.

I have a set of 15" 5-bolt Z31 alloy wheels (I think they were from an 1985 Turbo) but they are a +30 offset and the calipers hit the back side of the spokes.

Possible solution I found last night. Compomotive (a British manufacturer) make a Minilite clone wheel (model ML1571) that is available in a 15" x 7" +20mm. offset which they SAY will clear the Z32 caliper. Anyone have any experience with these wheels??

If they do clear z32 calipers, let us know! I'd like a set of those myself.

Here is the reply I got from Compomotive:

"We have checked your brake & unfortunately it will not clear our ML1570 et0.. however we could offer our ML1571 (smaller outer rim) et20 which will clear. Our 7x15 MO et12 should also clear. if you would like further info please do not hesitate to ask." Fikse can build you a wheel. So can American Racing, RacingHart, Boyd C, Budnik, and others..

I guess the concern is really, how big is your wallet and will you use it?

call motorsport auto for some panasport 16" wheels:

http://www.zcarparts.com

they come in low offsets, etc.

THey may not clear the Z32 brakes though, because that 4 pot caliper is wide...just ask them.-chet

I love the looks of the Panasports - but I've been down that road as well. A guy there named "Mas" sent me a drawing of their UL1570 et0 wheel and it does not have enough caliper clearance (only 26 mm. or about 1" from the face of the flange to the back side of the spokes). The Z32 calipers need at least 35 mm. (about 1 3/8"). To use it, I would need about a 1/2" spacer. What I need to check into is if the race/rally sanctioning bodies will allow you to use spacers in competition. Anybody know??
