Hey I need to get a wheel bearing for my back right wheel. I wanted to know how much they cost and what all is involved in replacing one.

Thank youJosh

P.S.Incase you couldn't tell I have a 91 s-13, don't know if that helps...

wheel bearings are cheap. Not sure about the installation on a 240sx. it might be a bit of an art getting the bearing seated right. Hopefully, someone has some pictures.

Wheel bearings are a bolt on affair. On the front, it's one cotter pin and a 30mm bolt, on the back its four smaller bolts, a larger 30something mm bolt and cotter pin, and some creative prying if your bearing housing has rusted to your upright. Once the bearing assy. is off the car you press out the old wheel bearings and press in the new ones, then bolt everything together. You do have to remove your caliper and rotor to do this though. Not really a big deal, but there is some downtime getting the bearings pressed in/out.

Do you have to go to a shop to get the bearings pressed in and out?

Excuse me, I misinformed you, I jsut consulted my FSM and this is the actual procedure:

Unbolt the four bolts holding hte wheel bearing/hub assy. from the spindle, remove the cotter pin/castle nut and slide the wheel bearing/hub assy. of the axle and upright. Now you have to press the splined hub out of the wheel bearing, and press the splined hub back into the new wheel bearing. So yes, you will need to go to a machine shop to use the press as the hub isnt a slip fit into the wheel bearing.

If you're talking about a vice, then no, thats a bad way to do it because you can misalign your hub while pressing it in and **** up the inner races of the bearings.

You can get your wheel bearing online from http://www.courtesyparts.com or http://www.pdm-racing.com (pdm sells them in their 240sx 5 lug swap section)

I suspect if you tried it with a vice, you'll mess up somethin real good on that vice. Those bearings are pressed in pretty hard. That's something a machinst will have to do for the average joe without a press.
