Please help...?? I need to replace the inner bearing seal in my Infinity I30 but the auto parts stores here in my area dont have any in stock.. my question is.. can i use an inner bearing seal for a Nissan Maxima as a substitute?? I am being told that alot of the parts on my car are the same as the Nissan Maxima of the same year. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Btw, I am a single mother doing these repairs myself and cant afford to go to the dealership. Thank You..

Fantasy-it would help to know what model year your I30 is to advise you better. I'm also concerned that you are trying to do the work yourself. How was this problem diagnosed? If you're really trying to replace the inner bearing seal, you'll need some specialized tools to do the job. How experienced are you in performing mechanical repairs?

I apologize, I thought I did put the year of my car in the post. It is a 1998 Infinity. And I did use the Nissan Maxima part and thus far it seems to be working. I am now working to replace the motor mount and fix a shifting problem. I have already changed the transmission filter and ran some cleaner through the transmission which has made the shift problem better but hasnt eliminated it. It seems to only be having difficulty when it is time for it to shift into second gear. If I give it alot of gas ( raise the rpms pretty high ) then let off of the gas and apply normal pressure to the peddle it shifts into second, although it is a bit of a slam. I appreciate your concern about me working on the car myself but I dont have any other alternative at this time. I have worked on cars in the past but they have all been older cars w/o fuel injection and computerized instruments and the likes. So I am at a huge disadvantage where this car is concerned. But my daddy always told me the only way to learn it was to roll up my sleeves and get a little greasy.. lol.. therefore here I go... lol.. Thank you very much for the help it is greatly appreciated.

Congrats on getting that part done! That's not a super-easy DIY, so it looks like your experience is serving you well.

Thank you for the reply and the kudos.. just an update.. I have now put in a rebuilt transmission and torque converter (also nissan maxima part) and also a very difficult task.. but i may have achieved success. I have been driving my Infinity/Nissan Maxima for about 270 miles now and so far all seems to be going just as it should. Yeah me...!! Lol.. I appreciate that you took the time to read and reply to my questions and I will be back here in the future when I need a little advice or just a little ' pat on the back '... again thank you.. :mike

Good to see everything worked out with the transmission. How many miles are on the front motor mount? If the electric motor mount is still hooked up, and the mileage is over 100,000, you may want to read up on how a failed electric motor mount can cause a short that knocks out the ECU. My 99 I30 had a bad ECU when I bought it that I eventually traced back to a failed electric motor mount. A short from the motor mount may have knocked out the ECU.
