I have a 2006 Pathfinder. The other day while making a slight left turn it started making a loud clunking noise. It sounded like it came from the driver’s side rear. I pulled over in a parking lot and looked under it and didn’t see anything. I then made multiple turns in the parking lot but could never recreate the noise. I’ve driven it a few short trips since and didn’t get any noise.

I jacked it up and shook each wheel. The back left tire moved while shaking it at 12 & 6 and also at 9 & 3. It seems like the moving wheel would indicate a wheel bearing but the noise would indicate a CV joint.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to start changing?

Wheel bearing also can make clunking noises. Usually they do not last for long if they are that bad.

I pulled the wheel off and the CV joint boots look good and intact. The CV joint seemed very tight. When I went to pull the wheel off it was very stuck. I had to use a sledge hammer to knock it loose so I figure something got very hot. I figure it was the bearings malfunctioning.

I ordered a new hub . Hopefully that will fix it.
