I'm bringing my 2007 M35x into the Infiniti Dealer this coming Thursday for the 7,500 mile maitainance. The dealer tells me in addition to rotating the tires (Which they charge $60 ) the tires also need to be balanced. I don't know a hellava lot about mechanics, but that doesn't make sense to me, for a car with 7,500 miles. The car shows no sign of the tires being unbalanced, and I thought that only needs to be done when new tires are put on the car

Any thoughts..Suggestions? Should I have it done, or just tell them to change the oil and rotate the tires

Thanks

Brand new tires will significantly change in the first 500 miles and peropdically there after. As the tread wears obviously the mass changes thus the balance changes.

Depends on your standards of perfection.

Even with Michelins [most robust and lowest radial imbalance in industry] tires will change 5 grams in 3.750 miles.

I rotate and balance my wheels/tires every 3750 miles or so - rarely letting it go till 7500 miles. I have found that this makes a big difference in ride smoothness and proper straight tracking!

The very common complaint of "warped rotors" ("vibration" while braking) is often (not always) due to unbalanced tires. The last time that the brake work was done on my car, the tech did an outstanding job ... pretty much every time, I get any kind of trivial wheel shimmy, or vibration while braking, the problem is completely resolved by a wheel balancing!
