I made the mistake of allowing a friend to test drive my new 2006 m35x. In his excitement, he hit and jumped a 7"-8" sidewalk curb with the right front tire. Now the car seems to steer funny and unsteady. My mechanic has anew Hunter alignment machine, but does not have the specs for this car plugged in. If I can get all the specs inclunding STEERING AXIS INCLINATION and included angle, besides the standard camber and caster, he will be happy to check me out. Can anyone help?

Ouch!

I have just added the wheel alignment specs to the Basic Specifications sticky in this forum. See the last post in: zerothread?id=125907

Note that the AWD has different specs than the non-AWD models. Please use the correct one for your car!

By the way, remember to always check alignment with a full tank of gas in the car! And that the spare tire, tools, jack are all in the correct places in the trunk. No other extra load in the car either - empty your trunk of other stuff!

Ok, can someone please explain the alignment specifications on the M35x and the M45(2006). I see the difference in the two models but, how do you tell what the specs are for i.e. rear wheels or front wheels. I brought my car down to get it aligned with the specs from this site and the mechanic didn't understand them. zerothread?id=125907 Thanks for any information. I need to go back to the tire garage to fix this tomorrow.

The information is for the front suspension. If your mechanic didnt understand those simple alignment specs, i dont think hes capable of aligning the car...

Yes! Front wheel info on those pages.

As far as I know, you can only set camber and toe-in on the rear wheels of the M. From the official Infiniti manual, I assume that you simply use the same values for camber and toe-in (shown for the front wheels on that page) for the rear wheels as well.

do you have the 2006 Manual, Z? if so, pull the SDS out of the RSU section.

I'm having the car aligned to fix the camber and toe-in for the rear as well as the front. I lowered the car a inch or so and want to adjust it. The mechanic should follow the camber and toe-in specs for the front for the rear as well? Is this correct? Sorry to sound like such a layman but I would like the car to be set up correctly. FYI the garage is a national tire chain in my area that aligns a lot of car. They sell wheels and tires and all that stuff. I have always had good luck with them for workmanship and price. They have all the latest alignment equipment but the upgraded alignment DVD doesn't have the specs for the Infiniti M. Thanks for the help guys.

Oops. Dummy me!

I forgot to get the rear wheel alignment specs out of the RSU because I assumed that it was done the same as the 2003/4 manual (front and rear in the same few pages of the manuals). It is fixed now!

Sorry about that.

No. This was my mistake! I mistakenly did not add in the rear wheel alignment specs into the Basic Specs sticky. The camber and toe-in for the rear wheels is not the same as the front. I did not think to look in the Rear Suspension Unit (RSU) section of the Service Manual, and just assumed it was the same for front and rear since it was "not mentioned separately" in the Front Suspension Unit (FSU) section of the manual. In the older 2003/4 M45 manuals, it was together in the same section and I assumed the same for the 2006 M!

Wes rightfully corrected me! Sorry about that.

If you go to that sticky now, you will find both the front wheel and the rear wheel alignment specs there in that post. I hope I got this in time for you!

"check alignment with a full tank of gas in the car! And that the spare tire, tools, jack are all in the correct places in the trunk. No other extra load in the car either "

EXCEPT YOU OR YOUR WEIGHT MUST BE IN DRIVERS SEAT otherwise the alignment will be off when you get in the car! Assuming you drive alone, if you always have a passenger the same loading situation must be maintained during alignment proceedure............assuming you care about perfection.

Your weight [150 -300 pounds] in the seat will lower the drivers side by 0.2-0.4" which will change the drivers side camber by 0.16-0.32 degrees.

A very good point, Dennis.

Although it is tough to find the time to make it happen when I am right there. I tend to drop off my car at the dealer and let them do the alignment, which I get the loaner and go back to work.

Oh, well ... I will mention this in the sticky! Thanks,

Z

You must devote a FULL day per month [perferably a weekday] to your car, unless you consider it just an appliance!
