Ok, we most likley burnt up the #4 piston ring compression was 175-175-175-65. We are in the process of building another KA for obscene power handling, so I don't care to dump too much into this one. Here's a little background info on the motor, it's all stock, with 30k miles, a daily driver setup more so. We are pulling the head, and oil panoff within the next couple of days, the head will be getting a 5 angle valve job, and some mild porting and polishing work. Here's the dilemma, remove the bad psiton, hone the cylinder to smooth out any blemishes, then either replce the piston with one from the original motor showing 165 compression, or pull all 4, and re-ring them all, using from what I heard using the 99+ altima rings which are said to better?

What do you KA-T vets think?

Setup was t3/t4 .48ar/50 trim, 370's, huge fmic, SAFC2, WALBRO 255, timing at 17, AF's around 12.3, making 231 to the wheels at 7 psi

Appreciate the help guys

Eric

so are you going to be going for more boost? for 7psi jsut use a stock piston if you have it sitting around and its good. if you are really goin to be goin for obscene power then get some ross pistons in a stock compression ratio maybe 9:1. i dont see any need to go too low

the 99 rings are stronger and are cheap as hell!

I would use them along with a stock pistonbut you have to hone the block for them.

Who said I was a moderator of the KA-T section a.ss?

Good God just cause I'm a moderator doesn't mean I know everything. I moderate NICO Meets, dont have to be too smart to do that. Plus I've been here alot longer than most people.....

I have a defensive nature, sorry, haha.

Basically it cleans and smooths out the cylinder walls all while not boring them out?

Actually, it removes the old ring glaze from the previous set of rings, allowing the new rings to form there own groove sort of speak on the cylinder wall. The best type of hone for the DIY guy is a simple ball hone. Its installed on a drill and run in and out of the cylinder at a rate of about 1.5 seconds per stroke. All the while keeping it lubricated with WD40 or similer.
