been looking at this motor for a while. seeing as how I have 2 non running 240sx's. can get a motor, trans harness and ECU stateside for about $1300. sposed to be bullet proof. 9000 RPM redline, 400BHP on stock internals. double row timing chain. some jargon about it being a F1 engine nissan gave up on, bored out and put on the street. looks interesting. any ideas??

actually can make around 600rwhp (ive heard) on stock internals. good luck finding one though, seeing as how they stopped production almost 20 years ago. any motor you find is going to need a rebuild cause of age. big names like HKS, TRUST, etc. still make some parts, like cams and valve train.

if you're looking for originality, then go for it.

personally, i wouldn't spend my time and money on an engine that old.

why does everyone always complain about motors because of how old they are? people on the Z car fourms take L28ET's straight out of the junkyards and dump 20lbs of boost down them with no problems. I know of several people on hybridz.org that do this and run em til they blow, which they have yet to do. L28ET production was also stopped 20yrs ago. Found one thru an AUS importer for the mentioned $1300 to get it stateside. gasket kits for $350 aud. Lower end bearings are the same as L20B. I guess it sits on CA mounts, which in turn are KA mounts, correct? Hrmmm, where, oh where is my tax refund check now??

how can you compare the FJ to an L series engine? L series engines are a dime a dozen and everyone and their momma knows how to work on them.

if someone out there knows where to find an FJ in a local junkyard or from a reputable importer, or knows anyone who can help you when it breaks please speak up...

...i think i hear crickets chirping.

it also has hydrolic chain tensioners (as far as i know)which after aging are prone to failure. try finding those for cheap. if your going to do it, cool, its an awesome swap, but it really is an incredibly exotic motor. and btw, JUN still makes alot of stuff for it. good luck!

ive heard that the adjusters can be replaced with solid tensioners (as in bolted in the block) but that seems like ALOT work.

god bless nissan for the fact a lot of parts interchange between all their motors. A lot of stuff off of old L motors interchange onto the FJ with little to no modification. waterpumps, bearings, timing chains are the same just longer. I beleive the rods are NISMO stock, not sure tho. as far as comparing the FJ to L motors, everyone always says, oh god, its an old motor you'll HAVE to rebuild it. well, L28 motors are just as old if not older and people pull these out of the bone yards and they dont rebuild them, they just wick up the boost. thats where that anology was going. Right now its an option, not the only one but an intriguing one at that. I do have a thing for old school tho. I like my 240sx's but I love my 240Z's.

Try 300, and that's 14 some odd years ago.

Oh stop it! Cmon guys these are engines, peices of metal that must conform to the laws of physics. Imagine if some guy said "I heard a V6 Camaro can handle 1140hp on the stock internals" before you laugh some quick math.

FJ20, 2.0 liters 600hp = 300hp per literV6 Camaro 3.8 liters, 3.8x300 = 1140hp

Is that possible? of course not. Because people do not deal with these engines in the states IRL much these rediculous rumors waft unchecked. The FJ20 was a fantastic motor when the timing chain tensioner problem was addressed but 500hp is about it for a maximum effort daily driven FJ. Now with those big 89mm slugs it could teach the SR a little something about torque. If you want an FJ I would caution you that parts are really scarce.

Hey mad...

I know of a guy who put 409 whp to the ground on a stock internal SR20DE in a B14. Yes, DE, as in 9.5:1 compression. 409 *at* the ground. It's not rumor either, I know plenty of people who know him personally. So I believe 400 *can* be done on an FJ as well, maybe even 450 or 500. However, I admit 600 is unreal.

hey that means the V6 american vg 200sx is the true s12 chassis right? If you could find one of those the swap would be alot easier. Can u use the vg ecu for that swap?

i very seriously doubt they can ship and engine for 300 bucks australian. think about it, thats $150 US. Cheaper than it is for daunt to ship and engine from Iowa to Philly? i seriously doubt it. But if they are giving you that deal it would be great!

600hp is possible on the FJ, there was a 700hp 2.2 one in a movie back in the eighties. However that was not on the stock internals by any stretch of the imagination and that is the point I am trying to make. The outlandish figures people expect to put down on an 18 year old set of cast pistons is silly.
