Hey everyone, I haven't been here in forever. 've been busy and I need to show my face again on theses boards. This topic just isn't for NYers, mainly everyone who deals with snow. It's currently snowing in NY and the roads are bad but they aren't that bad. The first time I had no problem driving buy this time I w/ my A/C my car kept skidding and at one point I went to stop very slow at a light and the car was about to head into on coming traffic. It's the first time I really feared for my life in a long time. Has anyone had any problems driving in the snow? My tires are all season, brand new w/ like 2000 miles on them.

Dude, I made it through a winter of lake effect on stockers...I am now digging the 2-4 inches in Pittsburgh vs the 12-24 depending on the "snow belts", some could see 3 feet crap on lake Erie...I do pull out in 2nd gear pretty much all the time in winter but maybe because I grew up driving in snow, and allthough I am not super confident in the altima in serious snow, it ain't bad...and I'm sure next winter will be better when I replace my tires...but I'll still do all-seasons. Even going home (I grew up right next to Blue Knob Ski "Resort") It'll be fine...

Ok, for most of you that haven't heard of that, Blue Knob is an actual place in PA just like Intercourse, Paradise, and Blue Ball...oh and Lititz is not LE TITS

One word: craptastic.

I know alot of the 3.5 guys are thrilled with their coupes in the snow, but I also know of several 2.5'ers (myself included) who think it's just about the worst vehicle to be driven in winter conditions. I'm running Michelin X-Ice's now and at low speeds it's phenomenally better than the piece 'o crap ContiProContacts that come stock with the car. However, at speeds above 80km/h on "icy" highways the car is almost guaranteed to fishtail.

Yeah...a FWD car that I have to constantly fight to keep the back end from swinging out on me...

I think next year I'm going to switch to a set of beefy Hankook i*Pike W409's and see how that fares over the mountain passes!

Oh, and FYI, this all comes down to what one's definition of "snow" is............

After my first horrible winter driving experience with my 08 3.5 sedan, I posted a thread similar to this. I've noticed that there have been about 3 similar threads on this subject, and my overall conclusion from the responses is that these 4th generation cars, coupes and sedans need all the help they can get. Although I'm going to get the best, aggressive snow tire I can get (it's even legal to use studs in this part of Ontario), I'm still not convinced that the 08 Altima will come close to the many previous vehicles that I have owned/driven when it comes to winter driving performance.

I'm In Guelph Ontario, so needless to say I experience a little bit of snow in the winter. This year I got a pair of Goodyear Nordics, and this car has become a tank in the snow. Apart from the odd fishtail around corners, (fun what can I say?) I have had no real problems driving in the city, or highway in snowy and icy conditions. I have the Nordics on the stock 16 inch rim, with 215/60 winter tires.

Hey, aren't the Nordics the really cheap ones at Canadian Tire? I had looked at those but I didn't think they came in sizes larger than 15"...

How cold did the temps get in Guelph this year?

Me too.

To the op

As ABRB228 said we had a little thread about his trouble in snow. We thought there are a few problems wth the Altima coupe one of them is the weight distribution. Which explains why fish tailing so much. 67/33 is not too good ratio. Few bags of sand would help.

This week it should be lowest around -15 to -25 in celsius. Not as cold as you guys get for sure. We are lucky SOB-es. We just get a good amount of snow here no cold. Almost feels like spring.

I am going snowboarding next week. Not sure if I should use my green shorts with the white strips or should use the black ones. Just kidding. LOL

My 3.5 is alright in the snow - having different tires would certianly make a large difference, but overall, I can handle driving it 40-50 mph even with fully covered roads. It's all about knowing how to drive it

My 3.5 with the stock 18" rims and all-season Michelin tires is awful in the snow compared to my old Accord. I'm seriously looking into a set of new wheels and snow tires but have no clue what to get.

It's not all about knowing how to drive. The roads were covered in ice too, I guess it depends on good tires too.
