Whats wrong with my SOHC!!!!!

I recently had a DOHC coupe, and I bought a SOHC hatch, my coupe had intake, WRX custom exaughst...

Now say im driving casually such as shifting at every 2.9 RPM, I reach 5th gear and decompress the pedal 50% then full throttle it doesnt seem like it gets any power. slowly accelerating. could it be because of thes mods? I know the engine is in good order cause the person who owned it befoe me was a doctor who was a bit of a nerd.

could it be the spark plugs?, im not quite sure when they were changed last. I did check the FAQ, but I couldnt find anything weilding sluggishness? if it is even sluggish at higehr RPM's part of me is thinking its slow casue I cant hear a loud exaughst like my old DOHC, this is my first SOHC am I freaking out for no reason?

what could be wrong with this? iv had a bad history with 240's so sombody please help im seriously freakign out walking back and forth. could it be ecause of the intake/exaughst thing? or do I need new plugs? what is wrong? could it be because its sluggish cause im flooring it at 2.3 RPM in 5th gear??????

i have a '90 with SOHC also... it is a little bit sluggish at low 2k rpms no matter what... except in 1st and 2cd.... but 5th gear is very sluggish on mine until about 3.5k rpm... but it wouldnt hurt to check the plugs/ wires, or even flow test the injectors, they are about 15 years old... hope this helps

5th gear is pretty sluggish in every 240 I have driven. I keep 4th going until 4.5k or so to avoid it. If I get around 2.5k in 5th, it starts to make that bad sound like it wants to be downshifted.
