Whats wrong with my engine!?!?

Ok, a while back i had asked some questions about lifter tapping,(leastfrom reading previous posts that sounded like my problem) (on 89 240) and had ran some searches when i had asked about it, some had said that oil might not be getting to the lifters/rocker arms since a chain guide may have broken off and melted in the hot oil (btw chain guide is missing) and that the plastic could have hardened in some oil tubes or whatever in the the head and thus stopping oil from getting there. Well what i ended up doing was i took off the valves cover and checked all the lil oils lines/tubes/squirters to the lifters and rocker arms, none were clogged, but noise still persisted, i didnt know what to do about it but had to continue to drive with it that like that, then the engine would just stall in the middle of driving somewhere, then it just didnt start all together, i dont know what the problem is, and would appreciate any help. I want to fix this problem soon, ive been without my car for nearly 6 months, so im just frustrated as hell with this...
